The Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Health (HPI.MS) and the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health are seeking Software Developers to may this goal a reality. Established in 2019, HPI.MS is the first Trans-Atlantic partnership to conduct patient-engaged and data-driven research in healthcare. Housed within the Windreich Department of AI & Human Health, the department is the first of its kind to be established in a medical school.

Summary of Job

You will be responsible for the design and development of an advanced AI research infrastructure and contribute to research projects including:

Computational Pathology: The Computational Pathology Initiative is focused on building large AI systems based on deep-learning from petabytes of image data to find cancer, classify cancer and predict patient outcomes. 

Digital Discovery Program (DDP): The DDP comprehensive digital health research program of patient-centric health studies using wearable, mobile and sensor technologies serves as a scalable platform for digital trials in order to better understand complex diseases and optimize health and wellbeing.

AI Ready Mount Sinai (AIR.MS): Leveraging expertise in computer science and engineering, we've built a platform where researchers can access the vast datasets held at Mount Sinai for data science and machine learning endeavors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of large-scale data-driven systems in healthcare
• Design and develop software for data workflows and management as well as data science applications for research and clinical use
• Design and implement data storage solutions
• Manage infrastructure for test and production 
• Build reusable code and libraries for future use
• Design and manage various data integration pipelines to move, normalize and transform healthcare data from various sources to the cloud
• Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability
• Implement security and data protection

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; Advanced degree preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working with web technology design and development in an enterprise setting
• Strong knowledge of SQL, e.g. PostgreSQL 
• Strong database administration skills
• Familiarity with cloud architecture as Azure
• Strong knowledge of data privacy and security
• Must be able
  • to work closely with others 
  • to pivot with the needs of the organization and learn/grow skill sets
  • to understand user requirements from specifications provided by business/non-technical personnel
  • to quickly develop competency with new technologies and software versions to keep the website sustainable and easily maintainable

• Experience with:

  • Python, Flask, or Kotlin, Linux, bash scripting
  • infrastructure as code: Terraform, Ansible 
  • building data ingestion workflows (preferably using Apache NiFi)
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Docker environment and Kubernetes
  • Web Services REST, API Integrations
  • preserving work in source control versioning tools such as Git, 
  • OHDSI/OMOP preferred
  • SAP HANA database knowledge a plus

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $109,000.00 - $163,695.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
