Job Description

We are inviting applications for senior scientists who are working to develop human cell-based models of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. We seek biomedical engineers, bioengineers, developmental biologists and molecular and cellular biologists who apply state-of-the-art approaches to cellular engineering and perform advanced screening and disease modeling for therapeutic discovery. The successful candidate will develop methods to differentiate induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to produce brain cells (e.g. neurons, microglia) and cerebral organoids for functional characterization of molecularly defined markers of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disease, including Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder and Alzheimer’s disease. The development of human disease models will allow CDN members to resolve the interactions between genetic variants, cell types and molecular functions in an enhanced disease-relevant context.

The Center for Disease Neurogenomics provides a hub for neurogenomics and disease biology geared towards developing and enhancing precision medicine across neuropsychiatric disorders. The candidates will join an outstanding team of scientists with world class expertise in a broad range of disciplines, including genetics and genomics, neuroscience and clinical psychiatry. CDN promotes collaboration, inclusion, and cross-disciplinary interactions between basic wet lab and dry lab scientists and clinicians, and provides strong support to junior scientists.

Responsibilities:

  • In addition to possessing independent problem solving skills and a desire to explore and implement emerging methodologies, the successful applicant will establish new research protocols and procedures, interpret results, provide feedback to guide experimental design or project focus and prepare results for presentation, publication and funding applications.

About the Center for Disease Neurogenomics

  • The Center for Disease Neurogenomics is part of the Mount Sinai Health Care System, which is one of largest hospital systems in the United States, and the Icahn School of Medicine, which houses over 5000 faculty in outstanding departments in psychiatry, neuroscience, genetics, immunology, stem cell biology, and experimental therapeutics. The highly integrated structure of Mount Sinai’s departments, institutes and clinical divisions provide a unique environment for scientific and medical collaborations that foster an ideal atmosphere for innovations aimed at addressing 21st century biomedical challenges.
