Job Description

The Data Analyst II, Learning Analytics and Assessment, will coordinate the collection, analysis, and use of data to understand learners' needs at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and contribute to projects that improve educational services accordingly. Under the supervision of the Director, this would include working on the following activities within the Graduate School: Learning Analytics activities to improve the overall learning experience; assessment and evaluation activities designed to gauge the effectiveness of teaching methods, curriculum, and learning resources, at the course, program, and school levels; planning and analysis related to providing education insights to current programs and potential new ones; collaborating and coordinating with educators across the school to enhance the learning experience; and presentation of assessment and evaluation activities to internal stakeholders as well as accrediting bodies, regulatory agencies and sponsors. The position reports to the Director, Systems Strategy and Innovation, and works closely with all the Deans of the Graduate School

Responsibilities

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Contribute to the planning, organization, coordination and execution of GSBS-wide strategic, comprehensive, and ongoing academic quality-assurance assessment and evaluation of programs, projects, and activities measuring student learning and institutional achievement. 
  • Work with Deans and program staff to develop assessment plans to monitor progress towards learning program learning objectives and goals, including class survey instruments, student assessments, exit surveys, student report forms etc. Coordinate and lead GSBS central oversight and provide ongoing feedback on plans and progress to programs.
  • Coordinate academic assessment and evaluation activities for compliance with Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) standards related to assessment and educational effectiveness; serve on Middle States self-study and related committees as well as program-level accreditation/re-accreditation efforts (e.g., CEPH)
  • Contribute to relevant evaluation sections of accreditation reports, documents, grant submissions, or other grant proposals on behalf of the Graduate School. Work with central offices to ensure that submissions from the Graduate School comply with sponsor/agency requirements. 
  • Coordinate closely with program leadership throughout the Graduate School regarding academic program development initiatives. 

Learning Experience Enhancement

  • Support the strategic connection between program/course evaluation and teacher development primarily through the work of the Curriculum Committee and the Academic Affairs Committee .
  • Work with Deans and program staff to enhance the Learning Experience, including collaborating on developing assessment plans to monitor progress towards learning program learning objectives and goals, including class survey instruments, student assessments, exit surveys, student report forms etc. Coordinate and lead GSBS central oversight and provide ongoing feedback on plans and progress to programs.
  • Act as the Graduate School’s liaison to the Office of Faculty Development in relation to teacher/mentor training and development initiatives.

Learning Analytics and Educational Insights

  • Contribute to the development and revision of GSBS-wide survey mechanisms.
  • Set up and administer data collection instruments, such as surveys, questionnaires, focus groups, and interviews related to academic quality assurance at a Graduate School level. Provide analysis and feedback on plans and progress across stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the GSBS administrative team to analyze results of exit surveys and other evaluative instruments, student assessments, demographic data, and other sources of information in the context of school and program evaluation. Design and administer such instruments as required. 
  • Prepare reports, working individually and by leading collaborative efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, R, and Python.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or similar platforms to create meaningful reports and dashboards.
  • Experience using collaboration tools, including Airtable, Google Drive, and One Drive.
  • Solid understanding of assessment methodologies, learning theories, and educational best practices.
  • Knowledge of various assessment types (formative, summative, diagnostic) and their role in measuring learning outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment and collaborate across diverse stakeholders and team members.
  • Active involvement in relevant professional organizations.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present complex data and findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Middle States and NYSED requirements for educational assessment.
  • Prior experience working on education evaluation instruments
  • Experience working with learning management systems (LMS) and student information systems (SIS) to extract relevant data is a plus.
