What to Expect

Role

The Autopilot Hardware team is looking for a Senior Performance Engineer. Performance Engineers are expected to understand the design, analyze performance and make recommendations for improving performance of the Autopilot system. The Autopilot Hardware Performance team is responsible for all block and system-level performance, across every platform (including TeslaBot!). The team is involved in every part of the product cycle, from high-level design, to development and validation.

Responsibilities

• Develop microarchitecture specification for performance features 
• Run high-level performance models and analyze system performance 
• Define and write performance verification/validation tests and analyze results
• Debug performance bottlenecks and issues in simulation, emulation or hardware

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or evidence of equivalent experience and exceptional skills
• 5+ years of experience in performance simulation, running performance models, correlation and analysis
• Good experience with performance tuning and optimization
• Good knowledge and understanding of CPU, GPU, DRAM and SoC architecture
• Experience with benchmark/ workload analysis and characterization
• Strong understanding of power, area and performance tradeoffs
• Strong OOP expertise in C++, Python or similar programming language
• Good understanding of digital hardware and design concepts
• Ability to root cause performance issues and debug esoteric symptoms
• Go-getter attitude and capable of pursuing tough engineering challenges to final solutions
• Experience with design verification environment in a plus
• Experience with GPU programming or machine learning is a plus
