The role

Tesla is looking for a talented and motivated Staff Data Engineer to join and lead our Data Analytics team at Giga Berlin. We are building a state-of-the-art analytics platform for business and operation intelligence. At Tesla, we have enormous amounts of data, and we want to give meaning to it, to help business users make data driven decisions. Our platform allows users to answer what, when and how questions, as well as allow them to ask, what if.

In this role you will build and lead a team of exceptional people, who will design, develop, maintain and support our Enterprise Data Warehouse and BI platform. This position offers unique opportunity to make significant impact to the entire organization by championing data driven culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead the local team of data engineers, data analysts and software developers, provide them technical guidance and ensure that the team understands and follows global Tesla best practices and technical standards
• Work with the global Data Analytics team on setting the direction of our data infrastructure and contribute to the implementation together with the team in Giga Berlin
• Build close relationships with key business stakeholders to understand long term business needs that will set the agenda for Data Analytics
• Be a hands-on contributor at building data pipelines using Airflow for Vertica; at design, development, maintenance and support of our Enterprise Data Warehouse & BI platform
• Create real time data streaming and processing solutions using open source technologies like Kafka, Spark etc.
• Establish a healthy peer review culture, organize and facilitate design and code reviews
• Keep up to date on relevant technologies and frameworks

Requirements

• Experience as a technical lead of data teams specialized in business intelligence
• Experience with designing data warehouses and data marts, database objects within relational databases, especially MySQL, SQL Server and Vertica
• Several years of experience in creating ETLs workflows
• Several years of experience in creating data pipelines using Python / Airflow
• Strong proficiency in SQL and query writing
• Strong problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and deliver on tight deadlines
• Desired skills and experiences
• Few years of development experience with Python and/or Java is preferred
• Working with a system at scale and with Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins is preferred
• Hands-on work experience with SSIS, and/or Informatica is a big plus
• Experience with Tableau is a plus
• An understanding of distributed computing, i.e. how HDFS, Spark and Presto work is a plus
• Experience in Big Data processing using Apache Hadoop/Spark ecosystem applications like Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Kafka and HDFS is a plus
• Experience with Kafka and/or RabbitMQ is a plus
