Applications of Artificial Intelligence will transform healthcare in substantial ways. As the thought leader in Philips in Data & AI, you will provide domain leadership in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in healthcare fields served by Philips’ Businesses, elevating Philips to the first rank of healthcare companies in this discipline. You will understand new developments, such as generative AI, and apply them to practical business needs and deliverable solutions. You will have accountability to understand current and future Business needs and opportunities, and use this insight, together with your own thought leadership, to define the capability roadmap. Data & AI capabilities may take the form of competencies, processes, tools, and data models that support the Philips Businesses in achieving their performance outcomes and enhancing their strategic vision. You will have decision-making authority and accountability for ensuring that the choices made in Data & AI capabilities are compatible with and supportive of business objectives. You will lead a team of domain experts, and together will work with cross-functional teams to translate these choices into plans, orchestrate development, and ensure delivery to the Businesses in-line with quality and performance targets, while also maintaining overall lifecycle of the capabilities.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide content expertise to establish and support the adoption of standards, best practices, and governance for Data & AI applications across the organization.
  • Lead and mentor a team of highly technical domain experts (capability owners) in Data & AI, who will lead development of innovation capabilities aligned with business strategy, and be seen as internal and external thought leaders.
  • Evaluate and recommend new or emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies that can enhance the Data & AI capabilities.
  • Lead analyses of regulatory and ethical frameworks, with impact and opportunities this represents for applying data science and AI to Philips propositions.
  • Collaborate with the other Capabilities (Software, Systems, Product Management, and Clinical) to further enable Philips to take advantage of advances in AI.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching (indirect leadership) to data scientists, product managers, software architects and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate and influence effectively with senior stakeholders, peers, and external partners. Act as the senior technical partner when engaging with Philips suppliers and partners on topics related to data & ai engineering infrastructure, tools, training, or standards.

Your Team

This role will be a part of the global Innovation Capability team (part of Innovation Excellence) and will lead a team of 10 people. Your direct team members will be global.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Recognized thought leader in data & AI (underpinned by publications, new product introductions, or other verifiable track record).
  • Advanced degree in business or technical field or equivalent working experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive innovation leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior technical leadership, with demonstrated experience in AI model design and deployment. Experience in regulated industries is strongly preferred.
  • External track record in applying AI models in value propositions – resulting in external publications or, preferably, commercial or open-source solutions.
  • Ability to lead a highly technical team to “raise the standard” for use of Data & AI throughout the Philips Business value chain.
  • Knowledge of AI applications specific to healthcare-generated data and signals (e.g., pre-reconstruction imaging, DICOM, digital pathology, genomics, waveform, UX telemetry, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of ecosystem supporting AI, and AI in healthcare – including hyperscalers (AWS, Google, Microsoft), open-source frameworks, and startup companies.
  • Current understanding of evolving regulatory and data privacy frameworks, and how this affects value proposition development, company obligations, and risks.
  • Proven track record leading major change management programs in deployment of novel technologies to underpin innovation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills, with sensitivity to complex organizational structures, and varying cultures is critical. Demonstrated history of successfully working in globally distributed teams and interacting with executive / top management is required.
