The Commercial Data Science (CDS) team is a community of experts who work closely with business stakeholders within Shell and provide analytical solutions with their domain and technical expertise. You will be part of the Digital Process Twin (DPT) portfolio within this CDS team.

As Data Science lead, you will work on some of the latest data science tech-stack to solve complex business problems and demonstrate significant business value for Shell. You will be leading a group of data scientists to develop analytical solutions leveraging capabilities such as Process Mining, Machine learning, Deep learning and deliver Digital Process Twin; thereby driving operational efficiency and increasing profitability of the organization.

On a typical workday, you could be doing one or more of the following:

  • Participate in process discovery workshops and translate business problems (sometimes ambiguous) into clear analytic problem statements, which could be solved through one of the analytics spectrums
  • Build expertise in respective business process to support Global Process Owner / Process Manager to develop pipeline of Data Science projects
  • Own and drive analytics project execution by demonstrating techno-functional consulting and framing the analytic solutions to business value
  • Perform a role that involves a combination of hands-on solutioning, stakeholder engagement and team management
  • Constantly develop deep understanding of industry trends, emerging technologies, leadership best practices, and review research publications to develop commercial use cases
  • Develop self by actively seeking opportunities for growth, sharing knowledge and experiences with others, and acts as a strong brand ambassador

Professional Qualifications & Skills:

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelors (Masters or PhD – Nice to have) in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, Technical Finance, or related areas
  • Around 10 years of experience of which min 4 years in Data Science and 2 years in Process consulting

Must have Skills:

  • Analytical Skills, with an excellent application of Process Mining / Statistical / Machine Learning / AI techniques - when and why they are used and interpretation of results from a business viewpoint to drive commercial decisions
  • Techno-functional Skills, with an ability to understand and translate business/process data from various data sources (eg: SAP, Salesforce, HANA, Service Now, etc.) to build business/process data model to deliver analytics solution
  • Consulting skills, with an ability break down complex problem statement, think conceptually, apply practical solutions, and communicate effectively to diverse set of stakeholders and colleagues, at all levels

Should have Skills:

  • Leadership skills, with clear evidence of people leadership (leading mid-size team) and an ability to challenge status-quo of business operations empathically
  • Elicitation skills, with proficiency in understanding End to End business process life cycle and ability to identify value gaps in that journey with consensus
  • Self-Starter skills, with track-record of setting up own direction towards agreed targets/goals and with creative approach to work

Nice have Skills:

  • Research skills, with proficiency in writing (technical/non-technical) paper for internal / external events
  • Social skills, with strong professional network in academic Institutions / Industry / Technology Vendors

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ project leading experience from scoping to deployment of explanatory, predictive, and prescriptive analytic solutions
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in business partnering and develop portfolio of analytics use cases in an industry / function
  • Lead at least 2-3 workshop (e.g., Discovery, Design thinking, Idea Generations, Change & Engage, etc..) with diverse natural teams and across levels
  • Minimum 4 years of programming experience in Python building Analytical model and SQL for building Data Model
  • Good exposure in Cloud platform (Azure or AWS), SAP HANA
