Shell’s Projects and Technology (P&T) business exists to make the delivery of our strategies and the growth of our company possible. Our team develops the advanced products and technologies Shell needs to meet customer demand.

Specifically, this role is in the Operations Research (OR) team within Decision Science, a discipline that relates to all lines of business of Shell.

What’s the role?

As the Operations Research Analyst, you will solve complex problems by using advanced mathematical and analytical methods. These include optimization, simulation, mathematical modelling and data analyses. The key element is to help the business to make informed decisions that create value. The business challenges range from strategic decisions around the design optimization of assets and supply chains to maximizing value from operational performance.

In this role, you will be part of Computational Science & Digital Innovation. The energy transition and ongoing digitalization in Shell provides great opportunities to improve data driven decision making. You will work with experts in the business to identify and mature these opportunities and develop advanced models and algorithms that provide actionable insights. The projects within the Operation Research team are spread across all business functions in Shell which lead to a varied working environment and great scope for learning and development.

What we need from you

  • At least Masters in Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics or similar quantitative science. 
  • Ability to translate business problems into conceptual, abstract models. Good understanding of optimization, simulation and data science techniques and experience in developing these algorithms and models.
  • Programming skills in optimization environment like Python/Pyomo, Matlab, AIMMS or comparable platforms. Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capability.
  • A Team player attitude with good communication and presentation skills that you adjust to stakeholders at various business levels.
  • Ability to work with experts in the field to monitor advancements in mathematical modelling.
  • The drive to continuous learn and improve the Operations Research team delivery capability.
