What’s the role?

SE–EE are looking for a data scientist with meteorological skills to join the meteorology team. Applicants should have experience and a strong enthusiasm for quantitative weather analysis. The candidate should be a self-motivated team player and they will work alongside the other meteorologists to create forecasts and devise unique trading strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct data analysis of large datasets to identify signals and trends and where relevant use this to create new tools.
  • Use in-depth analysis of weather models to create added value for forecasting.
  • Assist with forecasting responsibilities as required.
  • Run verification analysis to understand possible areas of improvement in forecasts.

What we need from you

  • Proficient with Python coding. Exposure to C#, Matlab, SQL and/or VBA a strong advantage.
  • An understanding of machine learning techniques and deriving statistics and information from large complex data sets.
  • Knowledge of weather models.
  • Experience working with ERA5 data and NetCDF files.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Preferably experience within energy trading.
  • Self-motivated to explore new ideas.
  • A passion for meteorology.
  • Educated to degree level in meteorology, or a technical / mathematical degree.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a solid teamwork ethic.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills; fluency in written and spoken English.
