Job Description

The Role:

  • Finance & Data Operations Data Science Team is tasked with delivering tangible value to business units globally across Shell through data-driven decision making. 
  • This position is based in Shell Krakow office with the primary responsibility to work on data science projects in Shell Retail, Fleet Solutions and E-mobility business. 
  • Incumbent will be responsible for leading and executing analytics projects using range of cloud technologies, collaborating with different stakeholders like Sales, Marketing, Finance and Customer Services, as well as supporting the implementation of insights to realize tangible commercial value for Shell. 
  • The ideal candidate has strong background in quantitative skills (like statistics, mathematics, advanced computing, machine learning), brings domain expertise in one of the business areas, has applied those skills in solving real world problems and is able to lead projects independently

Purpose

  • Support the Data Analytics team in design, execution and leading of data science projects
  • Work with data and technology experts to help execute analytics projects and deploy solutions

Special Challenges

  • Rapid onboarding on projects, understanding analytics goal and working with ill-defined datasets
  • Communicating technical jargon in plain English to colleagues within Data Science team and outside
  • Virtual working with network of colleagues located throughout the globe

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in machine learning techniques (supervised and unsupervised)/ statistics/mathematics (at least in one area) as described below:
    • Machine learning techniques: Decision Trees, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Support Vector Machines, Clustering, Bayesian Networks, Reinforcement Learning, Feature Reduction / engineering, Anomaly deduction
    • Statistics / Mathematics: Data Quality Analysis, Data identification, Hypothesis testing, Univariate / Multivariate Analysis, Cluster Analysis, Classification/PCA, Factor Analysis, Linear Modeling, Time Series, DoE, distribution / probability theory 
  • Strong experience in specialized analytics tools and technologies (including, but not limited to)
    - Python, R, SQL 
    - Power BI 
    - Ability to search, extract, load & visualize data from data bases using pre-defined reports and new ad hoc queries (using BI self service)
    - Spark/Databricks skills preferred
    - Experience in AI, data engineering and data visualization with an emphasis on telematics is preferred
  • Identify the right modeling approach(es) for given scenario and articulate why the approach fits
    • Assess data availability and modeling feasibility 
    • Review interpretation of models results
    • Evaluate model fit based on business/function scenario
    • Experience in Projects Management methodologies is preferred (e.g. Agile, Scrum)
    • Industry / Functional experience (preferable; including, but not limited to) in either:
      - Customer / Marketing 
      - Pricing
      - Telematics
      - Predictive maintenance 
      - Fraud detection
      - Churn prediction

  • 4+ years in data science on a global role or in various locations
  • Master’s degrees in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Technical Finance, Econometrics, or other quantitative areas
  • Good communication and influencing skills
  • Eagerness to learn and ability to work under limited supervision
  • A self-starter, able to work on initiative with a strong desire to learn
  • PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Technical Finance, Econometrics, or other quantitative areas would be treated as strong asset
