We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior NLP Data Scientist to join Shell’s AI organization. We are part of a team focused on developing end-to-end Natural Language Processing solutions and contribute to delivering value for our customers, and for Shell.

As a Senior NLP Data Scientist, you will sit across project teams providing high-level guidance and oversight, as well as stepping in hands-on when needed.

What’s the role?

As a Senior NLP Data Scientist, you will be responsible for ensuring that we apply best practices for conducting reproducible research and well-managed software delivery.

Further responsibilities are as follows:

• Design, implement and deliver NLP solutions to solve a variety of problems across Shell’s businesses
• Build relationships with internal project stakeholders and provide NLP subject matter expertise.
• Translate complex business problems into projects with clearly defined scope.
• Stay current on state-of-the-art approaches and new NLP technologies.
• Be proactive communicator who is excited to share your work. You will have to be articulate and be compelling in describing ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor junior Data Scientists.

What we need from you?

• PhD in a relevant discipline (Computational Linguistics, AI, Computer Science, Statistics...) or Master's plus a comparable level of experience.
• Minimum of 5 years' industry experience with at least 3 years building ML/NLP models with hands-on experience in main NLP frameworks (like NLTK, spaCy, openNLP, Stanford-NLP, WordNet).
• Knowledge of both classical and modern Deep Learning-based NLP techniques (TF-IDF, LDA, LSTM, Transformers, BERT, NER, Topic Modeling, etc.)
• Able to write clean, well-documented code in Python.
• Experience across the project life cycle, from ideation to delivery.
• Track record of leading projects and/or building research agendas.
• Excellent communications skills and the ability work in a team.
