Where you fit in

You will be part of a new team of quantitative analysts tasked with developing cutting-edge optimization, option analysis and forecasting and analysis solutions. The team is responsible for the analytics solutions for the mid and long term LNG trading team and supporting the wider Shell LNG Marketing and Trading (SLMT) trading desks (Short Term and Freight, where required). The role requires analytical thinking and a commercial mindset to support the transformation of the business as it prepares for significant scale and success.

What’s the role?

As a Quantitative Analyst you will be instrumental in driving the development and continuous improvement of optimization, option pricing and forecasting and analysis models whilst establishing an analytics platform to meet the team’s quantitative needs. Your commercial focus will deliver efficiency gains to the company, while your modelling expertise will deliver robust and models for the mid- and long-term LNG trading team. You enjoy the iterative process of quantitative research and development and walking the non-linear path towards modelling excellency.

The role holder will be accountable for the following:

  • Supporting the development of optimization models
  • Real option valuation and advising the business on options.
  • Analyzing and challenging modelling methodologies and suggesting improvements.
  • Conduct model benchmarking and working with IT and the business to implement robust solutions.
  • Contributing to analytics dashboards
  • Standing as a connection point between business and analytics development
  • Supporting ad-hoc analysis
  • Conduct exploratory and investigative analysis on new data sources.
  • Work closely with IT and other support groups on model implementation, system integration, and data analytics.

What we need from you

We are looking for candidates with high commercial capacity and strong skillset. In addition to domain area expertise, the successful candidate will need to present strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with both business and technical minded colleagues at all levels.

The successful candidate should also possess the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in valuing real options and option pricing techniques
  • Ability to communicate modelling outcome and choices with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Enjoy the challenge of working in a customer focused, fast paced and rapidly evolving business.
  • Working knowledge of trading and life of a deal is preferred.
  • Experience with traditional statistical and ML-based methods for time-series modelling
  • Advanced coding skills in Python
  • Experience with data science toolkits of Python (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow)
  • Experience in utilizing data across multiple sources e.g. databases
  • Experience in working with multiple data types, including time series data.
  • Data visualization and dashboarding skills e.g. Power BI
