As part of the Music Mission here at Spotify, our goal is to empower artists to build sustainable careers by connecting with their fans. To foster this connection, we’re building engaging interactive experiences for artists to share their latest music, art, and offerings with their top fans, and for fans to support their favorite artists. Our areas of expertise include interactive online experiences, e-commerce, and an exploration of emergent trends in digital fandom.

We are looking for a thoughtful, well-rounded Backend Engineer to join the band. As a member of our team, you will be building new experiences and touchpoints that empower artists to better connect with their fans on Spotify. We're keen to find an engineer who has experience in data engineering to complement their backend expertise.

You will join our innovative and collaborative engineering team as we work to iterate quickly in this outstanding opportunity space, crafting solutions that address both artists and fan needs.

What You'll Do

• Be a technical expert within your multi-functional team and across Spotify in general
• Facilitate collaboration with engineers, product owners, and designers to solve interesting problems delivering value to artists and fans
• Be an active member of the Spotify-wide backend developer community affecting and driving our architecture across the company
• Architect, develop, and operate Java services
• Leverage standard processes in continuous integration and delivery
• Work in multi-functional agile teams to continuously experiment, iterate and deliver on new product objectives
• Work in an environment that supports your individual growth by providing you with challenging tasks to solve and the freedom to acquire new skills in hack time, reading groups, lectures and a variety of internal training courses

Who You Are

• 5+ years of professional experience working in a product-driven environment
• You have excellent communication and collaboration skills and go above and beyond to ensure alignment across teams
• You have delivered end-to-end experiences and care about your software architecture across the backend, front-end and the APIs that glue them together
• You know how to write distributed, high-volume services in Scala, Java or Python
• You're passionate about quality and know what it means to ship high-quality code
• Experienced in data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques

The United States base range for this position is $116,455-$166,364, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. These ranges may be modified in the future.
