Job Description

We are looking for a Data Science Manager to join our Platform & Partner Experience insights team and help us drive an insights led culture within product development. In this role, you will be responsible for managing data scientists who deliver analysis to product areas to help craft growth strategies that are rooted in insights. Your role will cover planning and overseeing the data science contribution to your product area whilst working with user research counterparts to craft and maintain a holistic view on usage of Spotify. Furthermore, you will work to define and deliver an impactful quantitative insights roadmap for your team, making sure that insights contribute to long term business strategy.

As an Insights team, our mission is to enable evidence-based decision making in our organization. We achieve this by gaining a deep understanding of audio listeners through qualitative and quantitative research, AB tests, and selecting just the right metrics. We strive to impact the strategy and direction of Spotify’s consumer experience and to provide day to day guidance on product decisions, big and small. Our insights teams use mixed methods to study and understand user behaviour, evaluate potential product initiatives, guide plans and generate ideas. The goal is to advise every decision we make with relevant evidence, metrics, insights and data.

What you’ll do

  • Nurture a team of data scientists and set focus, strategy and priorities for the team's work to influence and impact in the organization.
  • Deliver measurable data and insights via your team to drive decisions across the business.
  • Provide coaching, leadership and mentorship to the broader product insights team.
  • Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to key stakeholders at the Director, VP and Executive levels.
  • Contribute to data science strategy and the execution of that strategy for the Platform & Partner Experience department.
  • Build relationships to work closely with cross-functional teams of designers, user researchers, product managers and engineers.

Who you are

  • You have experience of leading data science at a consumer-focused company, and a degree in science, statistics, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • You have the technical competence to perform and coach team members in advanced analytics.
  • You have experience working with evaluative and formative qualitative user research methods and are comfortable supporting your team in planning, prioritising, conducting, analysing and communicating research.
  • You are a great storyteller and communicator, and can build relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • You are capable of tackling ambiguous problem spaces and challenges.
  • You have a passion for making sense of user behaviour, using any available methods and a dedicated advocate of a user-centered approach in product development.
  • Experience of working with a growing product, and of exploring data to uncover new opportunities for product development, would be an advantage in this role.

Where you’ll be

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the EMEAregion in which we have a work location and is within working hours.
  • Working hours? We operate within the Central European and GMT time zones for collaboration and ask that all be located in that time zone.
  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here.
