Job Description
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Data Science Manager to join the Ads Mission (“Amplify”) and lead Spotify’s Self-Serve Advertising Data Science team. This leader will drive our ad product forward while helping to build a data-driven culture.
The Amplify team is at the center of Spotify’s long-term growth and revenue strategy. The team will be composed of data scientists and will partner with our engineering, product, and design teams to generate ideas and plans, develop tools and methodologies, run experiments and AB tests, analyze data for growth, and inform decisions we make with just the right amount of metrics and data.
What You'll Do
- As a senior data science leader, you will partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Design counterparts to define and implement a healthy and progressive vision and strategy for our self-serve ad platform and be accountable for its success.
- Lead, grow and support a highly engaged team of data scientists to set focus, strategy, and priorities that increase the influence and impact of insights.
- Promote robust data science practices and processes and ensure scalability, performance, and high quality of work your team delivers and close collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Proactively evaluate the state of our data and performance metrics and ensure measurement of progress against these metrics.
- Build lasting solutions to surface critical insights while driving iterative product improvement through efficient experimentation and causal inference analysis.
- Develop people and teams through coaching, mentoring, and management support.
- Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to partners at the Director, VP, and Executive levels.
- Collaborate with insight partners across the organization and contribute to the wider data science practice.
Who You Are
- 3+ years of proven experience as a people manager leading a data science organization with the technical chops you don’t mind dusting off when needed.
- Experience in an analytical role in a technology company.
- You understand how to create strategic alignment with cross-functional teams and you are able to translate strategy to concrete execution plans, staffing and organizational structure while also being accountable for the results of those plans
- Technical competence and leadership skills to mentor team members in appropriate methodologies, communication style, and technical solutions needed.
- Demonstrated ability as a leader of data-driven culture in your organization
- Tackle ambiguous problem spaces and challenges. You can help product managers with defining the questions they want to be answered, and specifying methodology and timelines for their requests.
- Pragmatic and can make tough decisions quickly. You are capable of saying no if needed.
- Past experience in ad tech and UX metrics is a plus, but not required.
