User Platform (UP) is a tribe in Spotify’s Platform mission. The Platform mission is responsible for building the tooling and support platforms for the engineering teams at Spotify. UP owns the platforms for authentication, authorization, user account data and user experience configuration at Spotify. 

UP was formed with the mission to provide a secure platform that helps users establish their identity and manage their account data on different surfaces. UP also enables teams around Spotify to experiment on and customize the user experience in new and more refined ways.

UP is responsible for many of the core services needed for Spotify to function and provide the 380M+ users across the world access to the audio experience they desire.

UP tribe is looking for a Data Scientist to increase our insights into IAM (Identity Access Management), remote configuration’s performances and multivariate testing across our products. Your mission is to combine numerous big data sources and provide various teams with insights to continuously evolve and iterate on our products. In this role, you will be responsible for fulfilling complex requests end to end: from scope definition, to data analysis, to communicating resolution to your team and stakeholders. You will also be challenged to build reusable and comprehensive dashboards and operational tools to enable User Platform to scale its impact.

What you’ll do

  • Formulate hypotheses related to engineering effectiveness, product performances, & operational excellence, validate them from our datasets, and communicate these insights effectively
  • Utilise our insights to support your Squad
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, user researchers, product designers, and product managers across the mission to create and promote shared data-informed methods

Who you are

  • You have experience, preferably working with engineering, and product design
  • You have relevant training in statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics, or another quantitative discipline
  • You possess statistical skills to perform analytics (such as regression modelling, a/b testing and significance testing)
  • You have experience performing analysis with large datasets in a cloud-based data processing environment, such as BigQuery or similar
  • You are proficient in Python, R, SQL, or other scripting languages
  • You are familiar with data visualization tools, such as Tableau
  • You're passionate about your work, striving towards the goals of the team and, ultimately, the Spotify mission - “giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it
