The Yahoo Advertising group is responsible for providing advertising platform solutions for clients around the world. Our team designs and supports many of the systems, tools, and processes that allow for the execution of online advertising campaigns to meet the needs of our clients.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Data Science/Research Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Research Engineer, you will play a crucial role in leveraging our vast data sets to create innovative new data products. Your responsibilities will involve designing and implementing data models, developing algorithms, and deploying scalable solutions. This role requires a strong combination of programming skills, statistical knowledge, and a passion for uncovering patterns and trends in complex data sets.

We​ ​design​ ​innovative​ ​algorithms​ ​to​ ​optimize performance of ad campaigns for our clients and push​ ​the​ ​capacity,​ ​performance​ ​and​ ​reliability​ ​of​ ​our​ ​platforms,​ ​exploit​ ​novel machine learning paradigms,​ ​and​ ​evaluate​ ​the impact​ ​in​ ​Web-scale​ ​production​ ​settings.​ ​We​ ​actively contribute​ ​to​ ​the​ ​scientific​ ​and open​ ​source​ ​communities​ ​in​ ​foundations​ ​of​ ​​Machine​ ​Learning, Mathematical​ ​Optimization​, Computer​ ​Science,​ Operations Research, ​and​ ​Computational​ ​Economics (Auction Theory, Algorithmic Game Theory).

What You Will Be Doing:

As a Data Science/Research Engineer you will work​ ​closely​ ​with​ ​colleagues​ ​on​ ​the​ ​engineering​ ​team​ ​to​ ​put​ ​research​ ​results​ ​into​ ​action.

Job​ ​Responsibilities:

  • Algorithm Development and Analysis: Create and implement advanced algorithms for data mining, machine learning, and predictive modeling. Build scalable solutions that process and analyze large volumes of data efficiently. Design efficient code that is able to run in low latency, high throughput, real-time auction bid servers
  • Data Analysis and Modeling: Conduct exploratory data analysis, identify relevant data sources, and develop data models to extract valuable insights. Collaborate with data scientists and domain experts to formulate hypotheses, design and conduct experiments (e.g. A/B testing). Deep​ ​dive​ ​into​ ​the​ ​data​ ​to​ ​understand​ ​and​ ​apply​ ​patterns,​ ​while​ ​maintaining​ ​a​ ​sense​ ​of​ ​the​ ​big​ ​picture.
  • Data Processing and Integration: Clean, preprocess, and transform raw data from multiple sources into usable formats. Develop data pipelines to automate data ingestion, integration, and validation processes.
  • Model Deployment: Deploy and operationalize data models and algorithms into production environments. Optimize model performance and scalability to ensure real-time and near real-time processing capabilities. 
  • Software Development: integrate data science solutions into existing systems and applications. Develop APIs and other interfaces to facilitate seamless integration and data accessibility.
  • MLOps, Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor the performance and accuracy of deployed models, identify areas for improvement, and implement optimizations to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness. Work closely with the software engineering and DevOps team to ensure smooth integration. Establish alerts and notifications to quickly detect anomalies or deviations from expected behavior.
  • Data Visualization: Create intuitive and interactive visualizations to communicate complex data insights effectively. Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely within cross-functional teams, composed of data scientists, engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions. Clearly articulate technical concepts and methodologies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Continuous Learning and Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and related technologies. Proactively explore and propose innovative approaches to solving complex data challenges.

Required​ ​Skills:

  • MSc or Ph.D.​ ​in​ ​Computer​ ​Science,​ ​Industrial or​ ​Electrical​ ​Engineering​, Statistics or Mathematics.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Scala.
  • Experience in working with relational and non-relational databases, data warehousing, ETL pipelines, and data streaming frameworks (think Apache Kafka/Spark/SQL)
  • Proficiency in using data science libraries and frameworks, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or Spark. 
  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments is a plus.
  • Experience with version control tools (git) is essential, knowledge about CI/CD tools is a plus.
  • Strong​ ​design​ ​and​ ​implementation​ ​skills​.​ ​Experience​ ​with​ ​large-scale​ ​production​ ​code development​ ​is​ ​a​ ​plus.
  • In-depth understanding of data science concepts, machine learning algorithms, and statistical techniques.
  • Strong​ ​communication​ ​and​ ​presentation​ ​skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
