Job Description

This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

About the Role:

The Senior AI/ML Scientist is responsible for supporting and reinforcing the adoption of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning techniques across the Global Purchasing & Supply Chain (GPSC) IT organization with the goal of establishing significant improvements in the predictive capabilities and overall resiliency of GM’s Global Supply Chain.

The Senior AI/ML Scientist will drive the identification, evaluation and adoption of rapid iterative and incremental AI/ML software solutions together with Machine Learning Software Engineers and our Supply Chain business partners. The ideal candidate can embrace, execute and apply Transformative ML/DL Technologies, NLP, and Simulation to create and drive the delivery of turn-key solutions.

Specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Identify opportunities to add predictive analytics to enhance the resiliency of GM’s Global Supply Chain solutions and processes together with GPSC SMEs
  • Track emerging technologies in the industry, and provide technology recommendations, risk assessments, trade studies, and analyses
  • Utilize expertise in ML methodologies and algorithms to create solutions in real-world environments
  • Awareness of state-of-the-art solution libraries and ability to adapt them for GM solutions
  • Ability to digest, design and deploy solutions based on research artifacts
  • Minimize the technical, operational, and economic barriers relative to adoption of sophisticated ML solutions
  • Monitor and sustain effectiveness of predictive data science models
  • Present complex information using data visualization techniques
  • Designing solutions at scale (minimize operational overhead)
  • Solve previously impossible tasks or reach unprecedented levels of throughput
  • Guide team to create/train/validate models for specific problems

Additional Description

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience solving analytical problems using machine learning and quantitative approaches
  • 7+ years of Hands-on experience in core analytical tools/suites/languages such as SAS, Python, Java, R, Spark, Scala
  • Strong background in Math & Statistics, ML/DL, NLP, Data Mining, Visualization and Simulation
  • Experience in one or more advanced analytical methodologies such as numerical optimization, econometric modeling and forecasting, machine learning and text analytics
  • Proven experience in Cloud Technologies such as Azure, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Docker, K8, OpenShift and more generically on HPC platforms.
  • Experience with ModelOps for the creation, governance, and lifecycle management of AI/ML solutions
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to think outside the box

Preferred Skill Set / Experience

  • Knowledge of Supply Chain processes and ability to understand Supply Chain use case complexity
  • Ability to effectively communicate messages to IT and business partners
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to think outside the box
  • Expertise in data visualization, data storytelling, data acquisition, data manipulation
  • Collaborative work style with good listening and communication skills, and the ability to work closely and iteratively with business subject matter experts, and other IT teams
  • Knowledge in C, C++, Java/C#, Python, R, Go, SQL, OpenGL, TF, MQTT and GraphQL.
