Job Description

The Data Scientist Advisor will be responsible for supporting the analytics strategy for Medicare Health Services, performing research and analysis within the Health Services & Revenue Management team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Science and Clinical Analytics, the data scientist will analyze healthcare claims, clinical outcomes, and financial information to make recommendations based on relevant findings. The Health Services and Revenue Management Analytics team seeks to provide operational and analytical support to our partners to improve customer value and affordability for Cigna Medicare. This role will help us accomplish this through data science, strategic insights, and collaboration with our internal partners.

The Data Scientist Advisor will interface across multiple business areas, including, but not limited to clinical, pricing, reporting, product development, operations, and marketing departments as needed. The ideal candidate for this role will be highly motivated, flexible, embrace change, as well as develop analytical and statistical models and methodologies to predict, quantify, and/or forecast business metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Extract and analyze large healthcare claims using SAS, SQL, R, Python, Teradata, Hadoop, etc.
  • Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in data sets through descriptive and multivariate statistics
  • Conduct matched case-control studies and/or randomized control trials for determining the effectiveness of health program services and solutions
  • Develop statistical models and methods (including but not limited to machine learning and other regression techniques) that identify and stratify individuals in terms of health risk and/or behavior change
  • Create predictive models to identify individuals at high risk for clinically relevant conditions, metrics of utilization, or other outcomes
  • Develop actionable insights and present results to non-technical business partners and stakeholders to drive the decision-making process
  • Collaborate with matrix partners to understand project developments, assess impacts to data and analytics
  • Develop methods for improving internal techniques and processes with expertise in creating highly effective, visual graphics that tell complex stories in formats that can be easily conveyed to leadership and executive clients.
  • Develop analytical and statistical models and methodologies to classify, quantify, and/or forecast business metrics that help customers make sound business decisions
  • Work collaboratively and partner with departments across the organization to ensure deliverables are accomplished

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ of healthcare-related data/analytics experience solving business problems through the application of analytic approaches.
  • Experience with diverse healthcare data preferred, including claims, EHR, demographic, exercise, pharmacy, lab, biometrics, genomic, and text
  • Previous experience conducting program evaluation/outcomes research methods, predictive modeling and data mining is required
  • Experience with statistical software program SAS/SAS EG, R and/or Python is required
  • Statistics experience in: propensity score matching, coarsened exact matching, multivariate regression, machine learning, etc.
  • Comprehension of healthcare data (e.g., ICD-10, claims, utilization, provider information) and demonstrated understanding of health care and delivery system processes
  • Leadership competencies including the ability to collaborate with others and establish working relationships, communicate effectively across the organization and at different levels, think and act strategically, and influence key leaders with a Strong customer focus and management of stakeholder expectations

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
