This role is for an advanced level professional providing professional input to complex assignments/projects and providing direction to more junior professionals within the Machine Learning job family.; Supports the design and implementation of creative software solutions for a broad range of problems. Developing strong knowledge of NLP and ML prior art. Responsible for the research, extraction and analysis of data. Evaluates and writes reports. Assist in the designing and implementation of systems/processes to analyze and report findings. Exercises judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of both standard and complex techniques and procedures; uses in-depth professional knowledge and acumen to develop models and procedures, and monitor trends, within Machine Learning. Tasks involve forward planning and anticipation of needs/issues.

Our near-term focus is building solutions to address problems within the domain of prior-authorization, and our long-term problem space is incredibly broad and open-ended. As such, to identify the next generation of problems that we will tackle, we interact regularly with a diverse group of stakeholders that includes representatives from Cigna (Evernorth’s parent company), Evernorth (the independent health services business unit within Cigna), clinicians and hospital networks (with whom we have partnerships), and ultimately the patients we seek to help.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Product, AI Engineering and Data Science to guide the application of the newest AI technologies to solve healthcare business problems following our plans and product roadmaps
  • Support the delivery of cloud-based AI and analytics solutions to eviCore, Cigna, Evernorth and the market at large including our primary prior authorization automation solutions
  • Using Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira), guide the discovery, design and implementation of critical features for both our current mature solutions and our innovation pipeline
  • Assist or lead the rapid experimentation needed to support continuous and radical innovation
  • Use industry-leading expertise to design and develop novel models and algorithms to solve the problems of the healthcare value chain
  • Collaborate and utilize novel internal healthcare NLP tools to build a clinical intelligence software
  • Research use cases, build business cases, and collaborate to design proof-of-concept solutions for problems that impact patients, clinicians, providers and insurers
  • Access a comprehensive catalog of clinical and non-clinical data through our broader enterprise and collaborate with healthcare software thought leaders
  • Develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms to analyze and interpret healthcare data
  • Communicate findings and insights to non-technical stakeholders, including executives, clinicians, and operational teams
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in healthcare data science, and identify opportunities to incorporate new techniques into existing workflows
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy and security regulations, such as HIPAA and GDPR.Ability to work closely with a peer team of engineers
  • Solve problems that will have a positive impact on the health and well-being of many people

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data science, with a focus on healthcare data analytics and NLP.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in data science, especially in healthcare, sentiment and language-based models utilizing both structured and unstructured data
  • A high level of proficiency with Java, Python C, C++ and/or Scala
  • Experience with distributed systems and cloud computing, such as Hadoop, RDBMS, NoSQL, and MSFT Azure
  • Strong knowledge and ability to apply machine learning techniques, including deep learning, natural language processing, and statistical modeling to solve healthcare use cases
  • Experience working with large-scale healthcare datasets, such as electronic medical records, claims data, and pharmacy data
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate methodology, results and interpretation to a variety of audiences and a variety of mediums (e.g, written, internal small groups, external public speaking, conference abstracts, patents and external peer-reviewed journals).
  • Software and healthcare business experience, especially translating data science into business applications and novel intellectual property (ie patents)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or Math; Master's Degree preferred or equivalent experience

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 141,300 - 235,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
