Become a Data Scientist Manager at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for managing a team of Data Scientists that model complex analytical problems, discover insights, and identify opportunities using statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques. Help build a pipeline of technical talent as you manage a team working with engineers and experts to develop key asset management strategies for the utility’s grid infrastructure and evaluate and optimize risk profiles and mitigations across the enterprise. You will help influence SCE’s portfolio of mitigations to build and maintain a better energy grid.

  • Lead the development of predictive modelling of key assets to inform risk analysis and mitigation strategies in support of business initiatives and for regulatory filings.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to evaluate data and develop insights, methodologies, and recommendations to help prioritize and optimize strategies using advanced statistical methods, simulation, and visualization.
  • Understand, evaluate, and troubleshoot Python or R code to support Machine Learning algorithms and data pipelines.
  • Communicate and present complex statistical analysis to internal/external stakeholders to facilitate the understanding and acceptance of ML algorithms and methodologies into the strategy process.
  • Establish and organize a Data Science development program through learning/training guides, process documentation, and collaboration with other Data Science teams.
  • Maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

Qualifications

The Essentials

  • Five (5) or more years of experience supervising a data science team or performing Predictive Modeling, Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling or Data Mining functions

The Preferred

  • Bachelors degree in a quantitative subject area such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or information sciences such as business analytics or informatics.
  • Proficient with Python or R.
  • MS or PhD in a quantitative subject area such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or information sciences such as business analytics or informatics.
  • Certification in Data Science or Predictive Analytics.
  • Proficiency with SQL and/or SAS.
  • Data integration knowledge and skills.
  • Experience with Machine Learning.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to manage various work streams at the same time, integrate work across relevant areas, develop and execute operating/strategic/resource plans, manage information.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
