In this job, you’ll be a part of the Grid Technology Innovation group within SCE’s Business Planning and Technology (BP&T) organization making significant contributions towards realizing corporate goals, which can ultimately enable California’s ambitious clean energy vision. This position offers the possibility to be widely recognized as an industry subject matter expert through making well-informed recommendations on technologies, equipment, and systems that will have a long-lasting impact on reliability, efficiency, safety, and cost effectiveness for SCE.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Work closely with the Lead Engineer of Innovation Projects to ideate new solutions to solve very complex challenges
  • Stay informed about new and relevant technologies to support the needs of SCE’s roadmaps and initiatives, including Wildfire Mitigation and Reimagining the Grid, which is an initiative responding to Pathway 2045, a published whitepaper.
  • Engage with key decision makers and influencers, including national laboratories and vendors, with the goal of building lasting mutually beneficial relationships
  • Recommend new and alternative technologies, systems and equipment to address project challenges
  • Support a range of development and small-scale implementations for equipment, protection & automation systems, control systems, and communications technologies
  • Identify and resolve issues related to projects’ development and implementation success.
  • Partner with Project Lead to ensure that new product(s) meet SCE specifications and testing requirements
  • Partner with internal and external organizations such as IT, Cybersecurity, technical field specialists, Engineering, and vendors to specify, evaluate, test and deploy T&D technology demonstrations
  • Develop required documentation/reports/presentations in support of project execution
  • Actively participate in external groups and entities such as IEEE, IEC, and other efforts where SCE’s presence is required to drive new technologies and processes

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
  • Two or more years of engineering experience

The preferred

  • Familiarity with Hardware In the Loop Testing
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Familiarity with system protection practices, philosophies, and standards
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
  • Leading technology projects to ensure scope, schedule and budget are met.
  • Strong oral and written communication/presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate information and to effectively collaborate with a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Developing and presenting effective presentations to senior leadership
  • Strong technical writing experience

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
