Wealth and Personal Banking is our global business combining Retail Banking, Wealth Management and Global Private Banking to become one of the world’s largest global wealth managers with USD1.4 trillion in assets. We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our UK Data and Messaging Department. The department is at the centre of customer intelligence and marketing; using machine learning to communicate the right message to the right customer at the right time. The data scientist is responsible for exploring and finding meaning in large and complex data sets. They will develop, test and maintain machine learning models that predict future behaviour. The data scientist will use techniques such as hypothesis tests, machine learning, cluster analysis, data mining and visualization. They will automate the processing of raw data and create valuable insights from data. The data scientist will explain these insights to a range of stakeholders to enable improved decision making. 

In this role, you will:

  • Consult with stakeholders to understand business problems and find solutions via data analytics, visualization and machine learning and articulate the results clearly to all stakeholders
  • Work as part of an agile squad and contribute to agile project management 
  • Develop, test, deploy and maintain sophisticated mathematical and machine learning models
  • Carry out statistical tests on large and complex data sets
  • Develop programs which automate data collection and processes
  • Provide technical leadership as a subject matter expert
  • Continuously develop your own skills and contribute to the professional development of the wider data science chapter

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

Essential:

  • Master’s degree or doctorate in a mathematical subject, such as, mathematics, physics or computer science; or other relevant professional experience
  • Extensive experience in the development and deployment of computer models, machine learning or other data science solutions
  • Proficiency with Python and relevant libraries
  • Experience of working with large, enterprise-level databases and structured query language (SQL)
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders

Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience of using cloud computing services, such as AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Experience of using other relevant open-source technologies, such as Spark, Airflow, TensorFlow, R, Git or Jenkins
  • Experience of using visualization tools such as Qlik, Tableau or Looker
  • Experience of working in large and complex organisations
  • Experience of working in an agile environment and using agile lifecycle management tools, such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Specialism in a field of data science, such as deriving insights from spoken or written language

This is a hybrid working role with the base location as either London, Birmingham, Sheffield or Leeds. The successful candidate would have to have the ability to commute to one of these locations.
