Operations Program Manager, Machine Learning Software Engineering

The Role:

The Operations Program Manager assumes a crucial role in Machine Learning Software Engineering activities including:

  • Creation, management, and administration of tools and data for project management, resource management, and software operations
  • Operations management duties including general reporting and budgeting
  • Creation and management of contracts and statement of work
  • Closely tracking financials for the team and tracking Capex and Opex expenditures
  • Defining and maintaining processes and standards for project management and operations

The Person:

The Operations Program Manager will be involved in day-to-day activities on creation and administration of project management models and tools with the purpose of tracking and reporting on enterprise resources, projects, project tasks, resource planning, budget planning, collecting actuals, and reporting. The individual will be responsible for budgeting and cost tracking for the Machine Learning Software Engineering team. The Operations Program Manager will also be a source of project management templates and documentation, operational data, and reports, as well as metrics related to execution of SW and Platform projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Individual should have advanced knowledge of business analysis and project management principles, excellent working skills with the entire range of MS Office products, especially Excel, experience with MS Project client and server.

Key responsibilities:

  • Close collaboration with the Machine Learning Software Engineering Chief of Staff, human resources, and SW/AMD Operations teams
  •  Identify staffing needs, develop hiring strategies, and plans and closely monitor hiring attainment
  • Drive monthly resource allocation accuracy and completeness including assignment of all resources in alignment with hiring attainment
  • Responsible for the creation and review of critical communications such as presentations, executive summaries / reports, announcements, townhalls and round tables / skip level meetings
  • Current year budget forecasting and attainment of labor, capital, travel and material budget and roll up to the global SW budget
  • Drive team responses to the long-range engineering budget planning process
  • Drive team compliance to corporate governance directives such as COVID-19 guidelines, work from home programs etc.
  • Accountable for driving the creation of comprehensive overviews, information summaries, analyses on demand 
  • Drive team compliance to SW PMO processes, standards and governance.
  • Assist with corporate human resources programs including team compensation, vacation consumption, day of service etc.
  • Manage the team internal collaboration portals (SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and Confluence)
  • Monitor OpEx and CapEx related procurement and track against budget

Preferred Experience:

A suitable candidate should demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

  • Engineering, computer science, or business/finance degree is required
  • Operations and/or Program/Project Management experience
  • Experience working in a High Tech/R&D environment
  • Very effective verbal and written communication skills
  • PMP certification and experience working with global teams an asset
  • Process and tools improvement experience
  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Visio. Experience with MS Project
  • Excellent analytical skills. High degree of Excel proficiency. VBA would be an advantage
  • Experience in building data models, creating and maintaining databases, data management, reporting, and financial analysis
  • Familiarity with system administration in MS Windows environment 
  • Some experience with SQL, XML, HTML coding would be an asset
  • Business analysis experience in complex project & program management organization in dynamic industry areas

Academic Credentials:

Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
