The Role:

AMD Server Performance and Power Optimization team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our world class team in Austin, Texas. The candidate will have opportunities work with a variety of technologies and perform data analytics on extremely large datasets. Exciting opportunities to experiment, research and develop software systems, tools and web applications which helps automate key business processes that measure and optimize performance of post-Silicon EPYC server processors.

Our team is focused on ensuring that the server products AMD creates provide maximum performance and minimum power consumption. Our bespoke software systems automate experimentation using scientific method and enable data science at-scale. Our analytics include basic discrete-time signal processing of time-series datasets to quantify processor behavior. Our projects and deliverables maps to Full Stack Development, Data Engineering, Data Analytics/Visualization, Real Time Streaming, Statistical Research, Quality Engineering, and Process Automation.

The Person:

The candidate must have expert level knowledge in software development using Scala/Spark and working level knowledge in software development and operations. Solid experience in Data Engineering areas (ETL, DW, SQL development, databases).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working level knowledge in big data application development using spark and operations
  • Understand and operate on distributed computing ecosystems, Big Data solutions and real-time data streaming platforms
  • Understand and evaluate complex data models for correctness, performance, and scalability
  • Maintain, enhance, and support existing software products which enables process automation, data collection, and data visualization
  • Design and write SQL scripts to analyze, triage and gather insights from large data sets
  • Pay great attention to details and quality of deliverables
  • Demonstrate outstanding ownership on tasks and assignments
  • Deep dive on requirements and participate/contribute towards high-level and low-level design of software features
  • Technical documentation of artifacts, requirements, design, defects, status, summary etc.
  • Participate and contribute towards Quality Engineering – Test plans, test cases, test automation etc.
  • Triage and trouble shoot development and production issues/incidents
  • Perform basic statistical research and analysis on discrete and timeseries data
  • Provide Level 1/ Level 2/ Level 3 support services to our applications and customers

Preferred Experience:

  • Must have Big Data – Data wrangling, Data Engineering, Data Analytics and Data pipelines
  • Must have Scala and Spark development experience 
  • Must have Hadoop/hive experience
  • Must have SQL and NoSQL development experience 
  • Data visualization expertise and report development a plus
  • Shell Scripting and automation experience a plus
  • Performance engineering a plus

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
