Job Description

Samsung is building a new, forward-looking AI Research lab located in Montreal. Our team is composed of world experts who collaborate with leading academic groups to create both innovative theories and state-of-the-art technological demonstrations that pioneer products and applications for Samsung Electronics over both long and short time scales. We are currently seeking individuals who share our passion and motivation to advance fundamental science and create revolutionary technological prototypes. Interns will have the opportunity to work with other research scientists and engineers and publish their findings in leading scientific conferences and journals.

Position Summary:

• Develop and implement new deep reinforcement learning algorithms to learn control policies to solve real-world communication or robotics problems
• Conduct exploratory experiments to test the efficacy of reinforcement learning algorithms and evaluate their quantitative performance on real-world systems
• Collaborate with other research scientists and engineers to construct proof-of-concept prototypes and demonstrations
• Publish and present research results at top conferences and journals and document innovative solutions in patent applications.

Experience Requirements:

• Enrolled Ph.D. student in CS, EE, or related field
• Team work and good communication skills
• Experience with deep neural networks, convolutional and recurrent neural network architectures and/or deep reinforcement learning
• Coursework and course projects in AI and machine learning;
• Proficiency with computer and systems programming using C/C++ or Python
• Experience on one of deep learning frameworks, e.g., Tensorflow, Pytorch

Further desirable skills:

• Track record of research and publications in machine learning and AI conferences and journals is an asset.
• One of our projects includes the development of hardware prototypes, and in that context hands-on experience with electronics and/or physical systems would be an asset.
• Experience with parallel or high performance computing would be an asset.

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms.
