Samsung AI Centre Cambridge (SAIC-C) are seeking an exceptional AI researcher to join their growing machine learning and data intelligence programme. This is a unique chance to join a world-class team in developing the next generation of underpinning AI algorithms that could underpin products to benefit millions of users around the world.

Role and Responsibilities

Purpose of the Role:

The machine learning & data intelligence (MLDI) team at SAIC is developing cutting-edge data-efficient and compute-efficient machine learning algorithms that will underpin scalable growth of future AI-based products. The individual will work within a cross-disciplinary research centre, collaborating with researchers and engineers in machine learning, logic, computer vision, speech processing, dialogue, and AI systems. This particular role targets developing SAIC-C’s neuro-symbolic machine learning research agenda.

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate world-class AI research experience in underpinning logic, machine learning, and at least interest and aptitude for developing neuro-symbolic hybrids. Applicants should have a PhD in AI or associated application. Professional programming experience will be a plus.

Skills and Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

Carrying out ground-breaking research in the area of neuro-symbolic learning, combining logical and statistical learning and reasoning. Contributing to the technical definition of research goals at a project and program level. Promotion of the research group through premier academic publications, and by giving invited talks. Maintaining collaborations with academic researchers and business units. Developing novel machine learning technologies, applying (with expert collaborators) them to solve relevant business problems such as vision, speech, and knowledge base processing, and facilitating transfer to Samsung business units.

Key Skills Required:

  • PhD in CS/EE/AI, or associated application area.
  • World-class academic research experience in sub-symbolic machine learning or logic, and experience or aptitude for development of neuro-symbolic hybrids.
  • Exceptional track record of research in AI. Key demonstrations being publications in top tier venues such as NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI.
  • Excellent programming skills in languages and frameworks such as Python, Pytorch, Tensorflow.
  • Excellent communication skills and tangible examples of leadership. For example, track record of invited talks, participation in by-invitation programme committees.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and results-oriented attitude.

Desirable Skills:

  • Professional programming experience.
  • Experience in conducting research on high-performance multi-GPU hardware.
  • Experience in one or more of SAIC-C application areas (speech processing, computer vision, text processing, knowledge graphs, dialogue).
