Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Fulfilment Core Planning & Execution and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders such as the Logistic operations and B2B business unit, the Head of Applied Science will create and build a new department that will be established within the Fulfillment Core organization. As we grow our fulfillment network and expand the Logistics services that we offer, it becomes crucial that our capacity planning and management process is highly data-driven, automated and optimized. The Head of Applied Science will build up a product development pillar dedicated to implementing this.

You will be expected to interact credibly and confidently with senior management and leaders, and to develop a long-term vision and strategy for the function in line with our Fulfillment Core and Business vision. The aim of this high-impact role is to be the pioneer and key driver of a new business at Zalando that will improve our business and increase our customer centricity approach, shape the company’s business strategy, and leverage its impact through strong expertise, people leadership and stakeholder management. You will ensure that each of our customers feels like we are speaking to them personally and taking them by the hand on their fashion journey

The Fulfillment Core team is building the fulfillment platform for all Zalando businesses. Our systems ensure that every customer order is fulfilled correctly, speedily and as promised to our customers. We contribute to fulfilling two central customer promises: Offering a flawless assortment and comparatively better convenience. Our vision is to offer fulfillment options that are fast, sustainable and affordable on every customer order and to do so with highly automated systems requiring minimal manual intervention

• We are looking for an end to end visionary leader that has the ability to build and lead high performing software product teams of significant size and seniority (15+ FTE), bring the department to the next level and to look into innovating and automating the processes and optimizing them even further.

• You have the opportunity to work with the senior leadership stakeholders across the wider team to develop data-driven products, involving forecasting problems, that orchestrate and optimise our fulfillment capacity process.

• You will have the ability to translate our commercial goals into a consistent product strategy; inspiring your team to reach our goal of becoming the “Starting Point’ for Fashion.

• You can bring strong expertise and Interact cross-functionally with the respective counterparts to leverage an overall strategic approach

• You will facilitate collaboration, communication and decision-making between product, applied science , engineering and stakeholders. Coach, set standards and provide direction for a skilled group of leaders.

• You will attract, retain and develop talent to build and grow product management teams.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF...

• You have strong leadership experience that combines Engineering & Applied science.

• Utilize your extensive scientific experience in building, leading and developing high-performing product teams, strategic planning and delivery and a results oriented, hands-on approach.

• You have the ability to think and act strategically when discussing, collaborating and presenting at a senior level.

• You bring with you significant leadership experience and a proven record of leading and delivering industry solutions with applied science methodologies

• You have the willingness to dive deep into the domain of eCommerce fulfillment. Previous experience in this area is welcome, but not required.

• You demonstrated leadership in a growth and complex environment as well as strong networking, team management and organisational skills. You flourish when working in a multinational environment, demonstrating a good understanding of cultural differences and how to embrace them, diversity and inclusion topics.

• You have strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise a variety of time-sensitive tasks and proven scalability.
