Senior Principal Applied Scientist (all genders)

Zalando operates Europe’s largest Fulfillment network for Fashion and Lifestyle products, shipping hundreds of millions of parcels to customers in 25 countries from 12+ Fulfillment centers every year. Fulfillment Core is responsible for building the software platform that manages the entire Fulfillment process. As a Senior Principal Applied Scientist in Fulfilment Core you will be hands-on in working on the most impactful research problems for our Fulfillment network, e.g. inventory distribution and capacity planning. As one of the most senior individual contributors in Applied Science, you will act as a mentor and coach to more junior Applied Scientists and contribute to building strong Applied Science practices in Fulfilment Core and Zalando.

• You are a pioneer and continuously explore, test and validate novel ways to optimize our Fulfillment Network based on scientific research.
• Launch new capabilities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our Fulfillment network to production.
• Take ownership of the complete research and development cycle, from data collection and architecture design to testing, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement.
• Develop world-class Applied Science talent and practices in Fulfillment Core.
• Contribute to the wider Applied Science community at Zalando by sharing knowledge and developing best practices.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You have scientific depth and breadth. You have a good overview over operations research, machine learning (especially for business problems including forecasting) and applied econometrics and are an expert in one of these domains.
• You have experience in machine learning, including practical applications as well as a strong understanding the underlying mathematical concepts.
• You have successfully developed solutions with decisive business impact from early research through prototyping to production.
• Entrepreneurial and commercially minded attitude. You like to build pragmatic, scalable solutions that deliver business impact.
• Experience in the eCommerce fulfillment / Supply Chain domain is a plus.
