Inside Zalando Connected Network, we aim to provide our partners with a profitable fulfilment experience, and we see that to do this, Machine Learning, Operations Research and Data-driven solutions will play a pivotal role. We need Applied Scientists who are fueled by the desire to build innovative and impactful scientific and data driven products, and who do so with large amounts of data.

As a Senior Applied Scientist you will work closely with teams of Software Engineers and Product Managers and will be responsible for developing greenfield ML or OR solutions that integrate into ZFS’ partner platform. Your forecasting and inventory optimization models will generate key insights for our partners to enable them to make data-driven decisions about their stock. You will have a key role in defining ZFS’ Applied Science strategy, and helping leadership to identify new opportunities and use cases.

• You will be joining a relatively new and growing team of Applied Scientists spearheading Applied Science within the Connected Network department. We trust your entrepreneurial capabilities.
• Work together with our Product Managers to identify our partner’s key needs and the most valuable use cases to address in our area using your experience as an Applied Scientist.
• Identify and consolidate the department data sources and assist us to develop our long-term partner data oriented solutions.
• Design, implement and maintain forecasting and inventory optimization solutions that will help our partners make informed decisions about their stock, their growth options and their monetization opportunities.
• Define and monitor key performance metrics to measure our models’ and solutions’ performance and their evolution over time.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF…

• Educational background in a quantitative field: Masters degree or higher preferred.
• 5+ years of experience solving applied scientific problems with at least 3 years in industry. You balance technical acumen with business understanding and excel in collaborating with product and business stakeholders to identify new product opportunities and drive existing use cases.
• Experience owning end-to-end Data Science projects, with proven experience deploying and maintaining Machine Learning or Operation Research models in production environments
• Comfortable using Python and with the ML software development lifecycle
• Industry demonstrated knowledge and skills in at least one the following areas:
• Data Engineering (querying and processing big volumes of data, SQL/Pyspark, building robust and scalable data pipelines)
• Machine Learning Engineering (service design, batch processing, GPU computing, git, docker, CI/CD, software testing)
• Machine Learning/Operations Research/Statistics (forecasting techniques, mathematical optimization, causal inference, inventory optimization)
• A true team player who believes in the power of a group rather than individuals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a detail oriented and self-starter mindset. You value a diverse and fast-paced business environment, and hence balance your passion for big data with pragmatism to drive actions and impact.
