Lounge by Zalando is the fastest growing sales channel within the Zalando Group. In 2021 we grew by ca. 49%, breaching more than one billion EUR in yearly revenue for the first time. That's 14% of the total Zalando Group revenue.

At the core of our high-growth strategy is algorithmic pricing. Lounge by Zalando's main premise is to offer exclusive bargain deals with limited availability to fashion conscious customers. As such, our business presents a number of unique challenges and opportunities for our pricing algorithms.

We are looking for applied scientists with an extensive background in operations research, coupled with applied ML experience, who can help us revolutionize algorithmic pricing at Lounge. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of economists, scientists, engineers, and product leaders, you will have the unique opportunity to shape a young and growing team with a direct and visible impact on the customer.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Conceptualize, prototype, and productionize state-of-the-art algorithmic solutions for pricing optimization. Translate business requirements and commercial objectives into model parameters/constraints
• Communicate technical problems and results effectively with other team members and also with (less technical) stakeholders
• Raise the bar within the team with respect to research excellence and effective collaboration across crafts and domains. Mentor fellow team members and help them solve technical and methodological challenges
• Drive and prioritize project work based on business and technical considerations. Mentor fellow team members and help them solve technical challenges

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• 4+ years of applicable industrial experience. Preferable PhD (or Master’s degree with equivalent working experience) in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Physics, or similar
• Strong theoretical knowledge in operations research topics such as (Integer) Linear Programming and statistical & nonlinear optimization. Good expertisé in statistics (e.g. hypothesis AB-testing) and mathematics. Familiarity with basic concepts and methods from machine learning
• Extensive experience with Python and its associated data science libraries, including writing production quality code. Familiarity with optimization software such as Gurobi, SCIP, etc. is a plus
• Affinity for research tasks, and good attitude towards uncertainty in projects
• Entrepreneurial and commercially minded attitude. You’re passionate about building pragmatic, scalable solutions that deliver business results
