About this role

The Aladdin Financial Engineering business is responsible for all analytics technology across the Aladdin platform. We research, develop, and implement state-of-the-art quantitative models used to assess financial risk including climate risk across fixed income, equities, derivatives, and alternative products.

There are three groups within Analytics & Modeling – the Financial Modeling Group (“FMG”), Aladdin Sustainability Analytics and Core Analytic Solutions. The Aladdin Sustainability Analytics (ASA) is responsible for building products and capabilities that are needed to quantify the impact of climate risk and other sustainability factors on financial assets. We also develop and maintain climate data & model infrastructure used for production of analytics. Given the diversity of skills required to develop these products, the Sustainability analytics brings together modelers, quantitative developers, climate scientists, sector experts and climate researchers.

As a member of ASA, you will be working with clients and partners to develop state of the art financial and economic models to assess the financial impacts of climate change and related policies on different asset classes – corporate equity, corporate bonds, mortgages, municipal bonds, sovereign debt and alternative instruments. As climate risk and sustainable investing become an ever-increasing focus for investors, you will be developing models and analytics to help drive a deeper understanding of risks and opportunities in this space. We use expertise of our researchers and quant engineers, along with the collective intelligence of our partners across BlackRock and client community, to deliver quantitative solutions and insights to help analyze investments and manage risk.

Job Purpose/Background:

Aladdin Sustainability Analytics (ASA) is looking for a Climate Risk Modeler to focus on corporate transition risk analysis. The primary job responsibilities include developing climate risk models grounded in fundamental analysis, performing sector research, supporting the acquisition, integration and management of data, productionising analytics, and working with users to integrate analysis into investment and risk management processes.

Familiarity with following areas is essential:

  • Corporate cashflow modelling (PnL/BS/CF)
  • Transition exposed sector dynamics (Energy, Materials, Industry)
  • Energy and climate policy and scenarios (IEA, NGFS, IIPCC)
  • Data analytics

Familiarity with following areas is favorable:

  • Portfolio management
  • Risk management
  • Carbon, ESG, energy and industry data / research providers
  • Physical climate science

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance and refine the existing suite of corporate climate risk analytics, blending scalable solutions and sector insights
  • Ensure quality of climate risk outputs across broad portfolios
  • Conduct research into sector specific trends / technologies that will impact the transition and understand key data points suitable for models
  • Support internal validation process through benchmarking analysis / research, user engagement and comprehensive documentation
  • Engage with users of climate risk analytics to ensure understanding and support investment and risk management workflows

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or master’s level education in economics, finance, or STEM. CFA, FRM or equivalent is favorable.
  • 3+ years of financial modelling
  • Transition exposed sector experience (Energy, Materials, Industry)
  • Excel essential, Python strongly preferred, SQL useful
  • Excellent communication across diverse stakeholders (development, product, commercial, finance)
  • Formidable analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of climate/ESG vendors, climate datasets, and standards
  • Econometrics / statistical analysis experience is desirable
