Job Description

Summary of Duties:

  • Collaborate with internal BlackRock investment and client facing teams to bring new index concepts to market. Ensure BlackRock Index Services standard processes are followed during all phases of the index development process.
  • Elicit requirements from potential customers and synthesize them into key index features. Develop the index back-test and publish the results as an official back-test report. Contextualize and answer client questions regarding the back-test, for instance, by quantifying the impact of specific features and design decisions on index performance.
  • Perform data engineering required to extract, transform, and quality control data input into the index construction. Develop the production index calculation code, ensuring all code is documented, tested, reviewed and that all quality gates pass.
  • Respond to technical questions from clients and perform ad-hoc analyses when needed to support and substantiate the response. Carry out post-launch support activities, such as working directly with index clients to support their index reconciliation projects and processes. Work in partnership with internal partners and external clients to align and achieve agreement on key dates.
  • Participate in the design of the target platform, especially as it pertains to the application of the platform for research, design, development, and production of ETF indices.
  • Build-out the index calculation and analysis toolbox, a suite of standardized, fully tested, and documented code for index research, production calculation, analytics, and reporting. Define and implement index design standards within the Self-Indexing team.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Electronic Engineering, or a related field, and three (3) years of experience as a Reference Data Associate; Software Engineer or related role.
  • Employer will also accept a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Electronic Engineering, or a related field, and five (5) years of experience as a Reference Data Associate; Software Engineer or related role.
  • Must also have three (3) years of experience with: using Python for data exploration and research; using SQL to review and extract data from various databases; working with Fixed-Income or Equity indexing and analyzing the overall index landscape, including major index providers methodologies and overall index delivery from providers to end clients via providers, including Bloomberg and RIMES; working with indexing business, including various rules, providers, and workflows; processing large amounts of data, with a focus on testing and quality control; and utilizing industry indexing tools, including Bloomberg, Factset, or Eikon (Refinitiv). If qualifying with a Bachelor’s degree, must have five (5) years of experience in the aforementioned skills.
