Job Description

Do you have a combination of statistics, business intelligence and data science skills? Are you passionate about using statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques to uncover opportunities in sales and marketing data?

BlackRock is looking for a Director to lead our Global Marketing Data Science team. In this role, you will use marketing and sales data to help us better understand who our clients are, how they engage with our products and services, and how we can better serve them. You will make an impact by generating actionable marketing insights that improve the experience for our clients and prospects. You will work closely with data stewards, engineers, researchers, project/program managers, and technology teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make strategic marketing decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of data scientists to design and develop analyses based on business requirements and challenges
  • Bring data to life for a broad set of stakeholders via effective data storytelling to ensure models are well-understood and incorporated into business decisions
  • Develop attribution models to quantify the impact of marketing in driving commercial outcomes
  • Identify and use appropriate investigative and analytical tools and technologies to interpret and verify results.
  • Use best practices to develop statistical and/ or machine learning techniques to build models that address business needs.
  • Apply and learn a wide variety of tools and languages to achieve desired results (e.g., Python, R, SPSS, Hadoop)
  • Collaborate with the team in order to improve the effectiveness of business decisions through the use of data and machine learning/predictive modeling.
  • Innovate on projects by using new modeling techniques or tools.
  • Utilize effective project planning techniques to break down complex projects into tasks and ensure deadlines are achieved.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Applied Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or Marketing
  • Master's or PhD preferred in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance, or economics.

Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing, guiding, coaching a team of Data Scientists
  • Baseline familiarity of marketing analytics, such as marketing measurement, marketing research models, etc.
  • At least 7+ year experience in advanced analytics, model building, statistical modeling, optimization, and machine learning algorithms including supervised and unsupervised learning, boosting and ensemble methods.
  • At least 7+ year experience with data mining and tools (i.e. Python, SQL, SPSS, R etc.).
  • Familiarity with B2B marketing and/or Financial Services (ideally Asset Management) a plus
  • Strong Knowledge of Regression/Linear Analysis
  • Experience in normalizing data to ensure it is homogeneous and consistently formatted to enable sorting, query and analysis.
  • Experience with BI / data visualization tools, such as Tableau, would be a plus
