Job Description

The Alpha Gen Technology team (AGT) which is part of the wider “AI, Alpha and Digital Assets” group, helps BlackRock investment teams deliver market leading performance (Alpha) to their clients.

The team has two equally important missions, delivering Alpha for investors and building Alpha Technology as a product. As part of the “Alpha Delivery” mission, the team works in partnership with Blackrock’s investment teams to develop predictive signals and strategies that are traded on hedge funds and other active portfolios. This close partnership gives the team the necessary deep knowledge it needs to be successful at its strategic mission of building Alpha Technology as a product.

Our clients need the Alpha Technology to scale their investment operations with the help of the latest features in AI development, sophisticated Alpha libraries, Investment Data delivery services and other investment applications, all powered by Azure Cloud.

AGT’s Investment partners include Active Equity, Fixed Income, Multi-Asset Strategies, Sustainability Strategies, and the Risk and Quantitative Analytics Team. People in this truly global team are based in London, Budapest, Belgrade, Gurgaon, Mumbai, San Francisco and Sydney. Meanwhile our business partners are based all over the globe covering all financial centers worldwide.

Your Role and Responsibilities

• The position is for a Quant Engineer – VP within the AGT’s Model Servicing team.

• The role offers direct interaction with PhD Quantitative Researchers and Portfolio Managers who manage multi-billion-dollar funds daily.

• The primary responsibility is to transform investment ideas from research papers and python notebooks into well-engineered processes, primarily using Python, that leverage an innovative technology platform.

• The candidate will have the opportunity to attend investment research meetings to gain a thorough understanding of the investment process, enabling them to accurately design and implement these ideas into production processes.

• The ideal candidate will have a strong interest and experience in software engineering, allowing them to write production processes that are easy to maintain and extend.

• The team’s collaborative and supportive environment, along with the proven technology platform, will provide a solid foundation for success.

In addition, you will:

• Identify and implement methods to enhance the efficiency of our systems.

• Support and maintain existing production processes and infrastructure.

• Collaborate with the product team to develop new features for Alpha Technology product.

• Identify and utilize new alpha-enabling technologies in Alpha implementations.

You have

• The ideal candidate will have over 6 years of professional experience and the ability to apply mathematics, machine learning, or quantitative analysis to solve complex problems and deliver innovative solutions.

• A strong interest in software engineering and familiarity with practices such as agile, test automation, object-oriented design, code refactoring, and release management is required.

• Strong individual contributor with hands on experience and good interpersonal skills within your own working group and with the business partners.

• A genuine interest in buy side investment strategies involving any one of the main asset classes: Equities, Fixed Income or Multi-Asset strategies.

• The candidate must have experience in Python and a good understanding of SQL and working with relational databases.

• Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure, Hadoop, Spark, S3, Kubernetes, Dask/Airflow is a plus.
