The Quantum Information and Integrated Nanosystems Group conducts quantum information science research from a shared foundation of innovative control-signal design, outstanding fabrication tools, and well-equipped measurement laboratories. The group has a broad range of experimental and prototyping activities. The group's quantum information science activities include the development of superconducting and trapped-ion qubits, and quantum sensing with nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond. In addition, the group has robust capabilities in classical superconducting circuits and integrated photonics. These component technologies are used in synergy with quantum information science demonstrations, as well as in standalone applications that include beyond-CMOS circuit technologies, energy-starved sensors, compact optical communication and laser radar transceivers, and microwave photonic signal processing.

The group seeks full-time Technical Staff to drive research at the forefront of superconducting quantum computing. Our work spans fundamental studies of noise mechanisms in qubits and demonstrations of novel qubit modalities to testbed-scale demonstrations of gate-model and quantum annealing computing applications. The successful candidate will gain access to industry-leading fabrication capabilities and a world-class team of researchers with whom to ask the most important questions driving the performance and utility of superconducting quantum technology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting experimental plans and directions; designing and simulating superconducting qubit circuits; developing measurement and control software; implementing calibration, automation, and benchmarking protocols; performing experiments; and analyzing and documenting results. Experience in some of all of these areas is an advantage, but we also expect that you will learn by doing. You will work with a team of experts in superconducting qubit theory, design, fabrication, and measurement, and a successful candidate will be excited to work collaboratively across this team. Members of the Technical Staff are expected to mentor and supervise more junior researchers, lead small teams of colleagues, and help shape future research directions.

Requirements

PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field, with a background in experimental quantum science. In lieu of a Ph. D., candidates with an MS degree and 5+ years’ experience, as well as candidates with employment experience demonstrating an equivalent proficiency will be considered. Bonus points for prior experience in superconducting qubits or low-noise cryogenic measurements. Programming skills and prior research experience or interest in quantum algorithms, benchmarking, and measurement automation are also highly desired.
