Job Description

The Information Integration and Decision Support Group is seeking a data analyst to develop techniques to detect, track, and monitor satellites in orbit around the Earth. Responsibilities include developing data assessment techniques and computer algorithms that will be applied to space surveillance data in order to improve the ability to detect, track, and characterize man-made objects in space. The candidate should have experience with software development in object-oriented languages such as Java. Assignments will require the candidate to work independently and in a team environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role. We are seeking highly motivated, exceptionally bright, and creative individuals who can think broadly, analyze complex problems, implement solutions in a rapid prototyping environment, and who wish to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technology in support of National Security.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience developing Java, C++, or another object-oriented language.
  • Software generalist, comfortable in all layers of a system; front-end, server-side, persistence, middleware, messaging, etc.
  • Good understanding of software design patterns and associated trades
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience developing code in a team; use of Github, GitLab, or similar configuration management
  • Effective communication skills.

Desired

  • Experience with messaging infrastructures, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.
  • Experience with data engineering technologies (Hadoop, NoSQL databases, etc.)
  • Experience with modern database technologies (relational as well as NoSQL databases)
  • Experience with languages like JavaScript, Python, etc.
  • Experience with systems implementing mathematical or physics models
  • Experience with large scale data processing systems
