The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Software Architectures and Algorithms Group is striving to lead the nation in applying AI and machine learning technologies to meet critical national security needs. We are focusing on applications that address counterterrorism, counter human-trafficking, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, protection of the homeland, and global security. In collaboration with industry and academia, we are working at the frontiers of AI to develop prototypes that can help solve national security problems affecting the land, sea, air, and space domains.

Our technology portfolio ranges from applications that use AI to augment human capability to those that enable autonomous systems. Our close-knit research teams have access to large amounts of data and apply modern coding practices to identify and execute highly impactful projects. Our objective is to make a positive difference for analysts, military commanders, and boots-on-the-ground responders. Access to on-premise supercomputing and public/private clouds provides ample opportunities to do research and development at scale.

Job Description

The candidate will assist staff in development activities including supporting engineers and scientists by assisting in day to day project design, code, test and building of software. The candidate will work as part of a larger team to learn and assist with project tasks, debugging, adapting, maintaining, and caring for software and tool chains. Work will include participation in research and integration of new techniques, tools and technologies as needed.

Candidates must be detail oriented, able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision and work well with staff and management. Strong problem solving skills will be required to come up with innovative solutions to challenging problems.

Requirements

  • Must be a student currently enrolled in the pursuit of an undergraduate (BA/BS/BE) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or similar scientific discipline
  • Experienced coder in one or more of the following languages: Java, Python
  • Experience with Linux operating systems
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Git, and issue tracking tools
  • Excellent time management and an interest in supporting developers

An ideal candidate will have:

Preferred GPA 3.5 or higher

Basic understanding of software development in Java and/or Python An understanding of software repository and collaboration tools just as JIRA, and GIT Experience with Agile software development principles Interest in learning about common open-source application stacks (e.g., for web services, big data, and Machine Learning) Interest in learning about Ansible and orchestration tools Interest in learning about deployment and management of containerized applications

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
