The Homeland Protection Systems Group works with US government agencies to develop, assess, and rapidly transition advanced technologies in support of the Nation’s strategic interests. The group has deployed novel technology solutions to address security challenges in the national airspace, in population centers, and at critical infrastructure sites. We specialize in detailed systems studies and advanced technology development, especially as related to protecting our nation’s air space. The Homeland Protection Systems Group is seeking candidates that have depth in the control systems domain across a wide range of applications such as data tracking, control loop implementation, and information fusion. The successful candidate will contribute to the group’s efforts in developing and implementing controls systems for RF sensors, optical systems, and multi sensor tracking and correlation applications. The staff will be responsible for developing system control concepts, modeling different control approaches, implementing real-time systems, and validating performance in deployed systems. Our staff work within a multi-disciplinary environment of researchers and engineers that are given the opportunity to invent, analyze, design, build, test and deploy technologies that have a real-world impact on the Nation’s security challenges.

Requirements

  • MS/MA in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Aeronautical Engineering. In lieu of a MS/MA, a BS/BA degree with 3+ years of additional hands-on experience in software engineering.
  • Strong foundation in control theory, including topics such as feedback control, state-space modeling, and stability analysis
  • Experience in automation control system start-ups, loop tuning, troubleshooting, noise reduction, and time-frequency analysis
  • Deep knowledge of linear and non-linear tracking theory (Kalman filtering, particle filtering, multiple hypothesis tracking, etc.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, or Julia

Experience in one or more of the following is desired:

  • Technical hands-on ability relating to automation of hardware and software
  • Experience decomposing systems requirements into high level requirements for both outer loop and inner loop control design
  • Experience designing, implementing, and testing software for real-time systems
  • Experience with algorithm optimization for real-time systems.
