Job Description

The MIT Lincoln Laboratory Supercomputing Center (LLSC) team is a world leader in interactive supercomputing, artificial intelligence and big data technologies. Our team analyzes, architects, builds, and transitions technology, algorithms, and systems to thousands of brilliant MIT researchers. We develop leading edge, high performance solutions to satisfy the Nation's most difficult problems. Our supercomputing team is completely vertically integrated, and we innovate at every level of the supercomputing stack from reducing the environmental impact of our systems with innovative data center technologies to collaborating with world-class cyber security experts to make our systems more resilient, from developing revolutionary algorithms and programming environments to make supercomputing easy for AI and ML researchers. Our researchers publish extensively both independently and in collaboration with our users.

Our team runs the largest computing conference in New England where our researchers share their research with supercomputing peers and work closely with other laboratories and departments at MIT including CSAIL, LIDS, EAPS, IDSS, and Mathematics. We are also leading contributors to the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (the largest and greenest open research data center in the World) and the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Beaver Works.

This post-doctoral associate position is for two years (that can be extended to three years) in which the candidate will develop novel techniques to apply machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms. Particularly, we are looking for candidates with interest in developing tools that can be used to apply AI and ML techniques to areas where they have not yet been applied.

Additional responsibilities may include student advising/mentoring and authoring or coauthoring technical presentations, reports and manuscripts for peer-reviews conferences and/or journals. The candidate will work in a fast-paced environment as a member of multidisciplinary teams consisting of PhD-level scientists, faculty and engineers.

REQUIREMENTS: PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field. Candidate must have demonstrated experience and interest in high performance computing with a background in statistics, machine learning or artificial intelligence applications. Candidates with strong mathematical foundations and interest in working with diverse problems are highly desirable. Candidate must have highly effective organizational, analytical and problem solving skills, as well as effective presentation skills and the ability to work both individually and as part of a team.

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.

To safeguard our health and well-being, MIT Lincoln Laboratory requires COVID-19 vaccination for all employees. Individuals may request exemption from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reason.
