Capabilities within the Group include molecular, cellular, and synthetic biology; microbiome engineering; rapid DNA sequencing; bioinformatics; analytical chemistry; organic chemistry; mass spectrometry; laser spectroscopy; microfluidics; and rapid prototyping. These capabilities are applied to solving high-priority problems spanning biomanufacturing; chemical, biological, and explosives (CBE) detection and attribution; pathogen identification and characterization; molecular intelligence; and biosecurity. Our multidisciplinary team works across and outside the Laboratory to solve hard problems using innovative bio/chemical engineering and analytics.

The Biological & Chemical Technologies Group is in search of a creative individual to expand our data science and bioinformatics portfolios. As a technical staff, you will lead a team of data scientists to address key national stakeholder needs and further the Group’s mission by developing and applying world-leading computing technologies to biomedical and applied biotechnology research challenges. You will also be supporting critical operations, developing and delivering national large-scale data resources, and developing and utilizing leading-edge software. Example areas of efforts include but are not limited to gaining insights from 2D and 3D biomedical images, clinical, physiological and genomics integration, computational chemistry, protein modeling, bioinformatic analysis of omics data, and other applications of computational and data science at the molecular level. As a technical staff, you will be a principal investigator for projects, lead teams, define research plans, and provide technical and management oversight.
