Job Description

The Enterprise Linux DevSecOps Service Manager will establish the enterprise DevSecOps program. They will lead a Linux and DevSecOps engineering function that focuses on the service delivery of related services through the design, build and operational lifecycles.

You are thought leader in the Linux / DevSecOps Services domain, leading socialization and communication efforts of the team. You are the connection point between the technology/tools the team offers and the consumers of our services. This manager will guide the evolution of our platform’s infrastructure(s), bringing automation and efficiency to both existing and new use cases, as well as plan and manage the daily operations of the team. The role requires a focus across all components within the system to develop and communicate standards / best practices both from a service perspective as well as a security perspective. The role also requires strong communication skills in order to facilitate a center-of-excellence with in the Laboratory community.

What you will do

  • Manage a team of technical professionals. Conduct goal setting and performance appraisal processes, mentors and coach’s top talent within own team.
  • Responsible for communications and stakeholder management as it relates to the teams’ projects and product delivery 
  • Responsible for planning and implementing the services roadmap. Review all product and platform designs, gather technical requirements from the Laboratory community and communicate roadmaps and plans via governance groups.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all services align to the Laboratory’s information systems policiesWork closely with the product and platform delivery teams to ensure guardrails are well defined and are being followed to maintain a DevSecOps mindset throughout the development process.
  • Define and communicate security standards and best practices ensuring alignment with Laboratory architectures.
  • Review product and platform code to ensure best practices are followed. Review audit and security test results providing direction to local teams
  • Develop and optimize services with a focus on automation
  • Responsible for defining and reporting on KPIs and ensures all environments remain compliant and meet KPI definitions with direction from senior leadership
  • Defining testing strategies and frameworks to assess the security, quality, compliance of services, toolsets and processes.
  • At times, there will also need to be hands-on in the support and maintenance of existing and/or future technology.
  • Drive continual improvement within the team - across internal systems, vendor product usage, and ways of working

What you’ll need

  • 10+ years’ experience in the information technology field or technical work environment
  • Degree in related field (e.g. mathematics, economics, computer science, engineering, physics, neuroscience, operations research etc.) Additional infield experience considered in lieu of formal degree 
  • Strong emotional intelligence as it relates to both self and social awareness as well as application to change management 
  • Strong communication skills to include the ability to lead discussion and guide a group to smart decisions even when you are not the subject matter expert 
  • Foster an inclusive working environment
  • Detailed experience working to secure platforms and products working across design, development and the operations to ensure security best practices are applied.
  • Experience leading a major work stream or multiple smaller work streams for a large platform initiative, often providing technical guidance and advice to ensure consistent deployment of solutions
  • Experience setting priorities, objectives, and driving deliverables within global technology domains and sub-domains
  • Experience engaging with the broader technical community to anticipate developments in innovation, often evaluating new solutions and recommending future business platform system requirements
  • Experience performing process improvements and automation activities for operational and financial value, applying tools and technologies
  • Experience partnering with internal customers across development verticals to support project completion, performing platform system initiatives and provide technical advice to the project team
  • Experience creating and delivering presentations for internal learning, training events, and/or business discussions
  • Eager to learn new and adapt technologies

Technical and Professional Skills:

  • Unix / Linux – Advanced
  • Microsoft Windows – Intermediate
  • Active Directory/LDAP/Single Single-on – working knowledge
  • Software Development experience in at least two major programming languages (Java, C++, C#, etc.) - Advanced
  • Relational Database Management - Intermediate
  • Experience using or managing DevOps Tooling (Source Code Repository such as Git, CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, Artifacts Management, Configuration as Code tooling such as Ansible or puppet, Infrastructure as code tooling such as Terraform or cloud formation, Security tooling to include SAST/DAST, Container Scanning, SBOM, Secrets Management, Container Runtime technologies and Orchestration tooling such as Kubernetes, Docker) – Advanced
  • Automation and exposure to scripting (Ansible, Python, YAML, JSON) – Advanced
  • Infrastructure & Network awareness (in particular DNS) – Advanced
  • Security Standards & best practices – Advanced
  • Logging and Monitoring – Intermediate
  • Cloud Services (AWS & Azure) – Intermediate
