MIT Lincoln Laboratory

AI Technology Group (Group 01) Group 01, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology, is seeking 4 to 5 staff members to join the group. This is an exciting opportunity for qualified candidates looking to deepen their experience and apply their skills as they participate in research and development focused on Lincoln Laboratory’s contributions to AI in support of national security. Group 01 develops fundamental, cross-cutting, and enabling AI technologies to solve complex challenges and advance AI for the nation. In close collaboration with groups across the Laboratory and with the academic community, especially MIT, our research team is working at the frontier in AI research. We are looking for candidates at all levels (Senior Staff, Technical Staff, Associate Staff, and Assistant Staff) with AI and Machine Learning expertise and interest.

Staff will work closely with our interdisciplinary research team and with academic collaborators to gain exposure to a large breadth of research topics relevant to mission needs across the Laboratoy. Staff will be encouraged and have the opportunity to publish academic papers and gain valuable experience in AI, while pushing the state of the art in intelligent and learning systems. Significant opportunities are also available for developing AI/ML-based software systems, delivering AI training courses to DoD/IC sponsors and Laboratory staff, and acting as trusted technical advisors to the government. We are looking for staff at all levels with machine learning expertise / interest in the following areas:

  • Pursue knowledge-informed approaches to Machine Learning Develop algorithms that incorporate models derived from math, physical sciences, social sciences, and human knowledge to make Machine Learning systems more accurate, data-efficient, more compute efficient, and more robust.
  • Develop technologies to address AI robustness, resilience, trust, and ethics Develop algorithms that are safe, fair, explainable, and reliable, and develop evaluation methodologies for verifying these properties to enhance the trustworthiness of individual models and AI systems with a focus on DoD/IC-specific data modalities.
  • Reinforcement learning and autonomy Develop algorithms, experiments, and prototypes in the area of sequential decision-making for battle management and autonomous systems with a focus on safety in complex autonomous systems.
  • AI software engineering Develop frameworks and toolboxes to make AI tools more accessible to the Lincoln Laboratory community and to sponsors.

Candidates should be proficient with the Python ecosystem of machine learning libraries, have experience with software development management tools (JIRA, Git), and have exposure to a variety of machine learning techniques. Specific experience with deep learning techniques applied is preferred.
