Mission and responsibilities:

In particular, Openbank’s Data Science-Risk department have clear need of data-based solutions that goes from credit scoring to fraud detection. This role will support on the advance analysis of data in order to obtain risk-related insights that foster the development of the data-driven risk strategy of Openbank.

This position stands within the Data Science-Risks team, and we expect someone that knows how to optimize more than ROC-AUC curves; you have proven experience applying ML engines to improve Business areas outcomes (measured as a trade-off between financial risks and gains) and take data-driven decisions. In the past you have faced data-atheists and does not frustrate you to lead them in the path of data conversion.

  • You go far beyond Scikit-learn. You think out of the box, create novel solutions and tailor well-known methods to the required operational constraints as well as disambiguate problems and develop new metrics for identifying and tracking success.
  • You love rigorous analysis, and you are a problem solver that needs to deeply understand the problem to solve, but also understands that an acceptable solution is usually preferred than a perfect solution.
  • You like to continuously think and propose new points of improvement for models.
  • You want to find the position where you can participate in the design long-term plans for data-products and strategy.
  • You understand business urgent requests and sometimes you just need to get the work done.
  • You have worked on several projects at the same time and understand how to balance delivery and progress.
  • You enjoy never-faced challenges and data sources, and know how to prioritize opportunities with business needs and Directors’ requests; however, our Senior Data Team is composed of ex-members of the most prestigious data-companies and academic programs, and we know that success comes only through collaboration.
  • You critical scientific thinking is normally reinforced by listening to others’ opinions with respect to the best algorithmic decisions; however, you easily recognize where a logistic-regression will do the job to achieve an 80% acceptable solution.
  • You feel comfortable participating in the development of scalable solutions and productizing; however, we have a ML-Operations team that will support you in achieving technical excellence.
  • You are able to design ETL’s and communicating with Data Engineering’s team the needs associated in a high technical level.

In our team, we nurture a meritocratic culture trying to provide professional development opportunities!

To be successful in the role you must have

  • +2-5 years of proven experience in an industrial environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and influence; ability to translate business issues into analytical solutions and ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to non-experts.
  • Statistical modelling and machine learning: you know the difference of a random forest and k-means, and know how to implement them in different programming languages (ideally Python or Spark). You know different model evaluation metrics, and when one is preferred versus others. You are also proficient on supervised learning, and know standard ML methods, and how to tune their hyper parameters in order to avoid overfitting/underfitting. We´ll double-check this with you!
  • Dealing with large datasets and implementing scalable solutions. You know when Pandas breaks and have dealt with different distributed solutions such as Dask or Spark.
  • How to solve problems using data: analyze the problem and decompose it into different analytical components, and recycle all the components you can from other projects. Ability to analyze and solve business problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context.
  • Software development: you know git and feel comfortable using it and how to develop your own code, test it and use it to produce actionable results. Open-source lovers get a plus if you show us your GitHub!
  • Data Visualization and tools like matplotlib, bokeh, leaflet, or similar. Bonus points for plotly, and Quicksight!
  • You have experience on geo-spatial analytics, feature engineering, and open-data processing.
  • Automation Obsessed: you are highly interested in collaborating closely with the ML-Ops team.

What do we offer?

  • Immediate incorporation to a dynamic and agile company with a growth and expansion project.
  • Working in start-up mode with the support of Grupo Santander.
  • Competitive remuneration and attractive benefits package.
  • Possibility of growth within the company and the Group.
  • Collaboration in international projects and possibility of contact with different countries.
