Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Financial Crime Modelling Manager to join Santander, this role will report into the team manager of the Transaction Monitoring Analytics.

The successful candidate will be required to deliver models with a small team of financial crime analysts and data scientists to increase the efficiency of the bank’s financial crime control framework.

In this ‘hands-on’ role beyond managing the small team and effectively prioritising incoming stakeholder requirements, you will also design and build rule based and statistical models for the detection of financial crime risks. As a manager, you are also expected to train and mentor junior data analysts, scientists and data science apprentices as well as to lead financial crime projects.

The difference you’ll make:

  • Interacting with internal stakeholders in the financial crime control operations, regulatory governance and front office of the Transaction monitoring Centre of Excellence
  • Working with other stakeholders in the company on building scalable financial crime production systems (internal alerting systems) and applications (NetReveal, ThetaRay).
  • Writing, testing and maintaining production-quality code, and design, experiment, and evaluate algorithms, and models (rule and Ai based)
  • Improving methodologies, develop new data sources, testing model enhancements, and fine-tuning model parameters with production and management of the appropriate model documentation.
  • Communicating with business customers and leadership team with various levels of technical knowledge, educating them, as well as sharing insights and recommendations.
  • Managing and mentoring a small team (3-4) financial crime data analysts, data scientists and data science apprentices.

What you’ll bring:

  • Expert knowledge of Python and/or R and SQL in a Big Data environment (essential)
  • Significant experience in designing, implementing, and calibrating financial crime or risk or fraud detection models as a team manager.

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • High level degree in a scientific/numerical discipline. (MSc, PhD is an advantage)
  • Experience with Financial Crime Case management solutions (NetReveal, ThetaRay) and Financial Crime Controls
  • Experience with distributed computational frameworks (AWS, Impala, Hive, Hadoop, Spark)
  • Mastery of source control versioning and unit-testing
