Big Data Developer-Campaign Operations - Data Science & BI (Openbank) Madrid, Spain

Mission and responsibilities:

As a Big Data Developer, you will provide the link between the pure commercial business needs with the analytical engines, creating the link between business areas and a team of data scientists. Marketing campaigns, customer intelligence, churn reduction, product definition and other relevant areas of the business have a clear need of data. This role will support on the advance analysis of data in order to obtain business-related insights that foster the development of the data-driven business strategy of Openbank.

  • This position stands within the Commercial Intelligence team, and we expect someone that wants to apply coding and automation skills to obtain trusted continuous success KPIs; you have proven experience using Data to improve Business areas outcomes and take data-driven decisions. 
  • You know how to create metrics that measure the performance of certain customer behaviors and enjoy the experimentation of behavioral actions to analyze the evolution of the created indicators.
  • You want to find the position where you can participate in the design long-term plans for data-products and strategy, although you understand business urgent requests and sometimes you just need to get the work done. You have worked on several projects at the same time and understand how to balance delivery and progress. 
  • You enjoy never-faced challenges and data sources, and know how to prioritize opportunities with business needs and Directors’ requests; however our Senior Data Team is composed of ex-members of the most prestigious data-companies and academic programs, and we know that success comes only through collaboration.
  • Scalable solutions and production-readiness are two of your mantras; however, we have a ML-Operations team that will support you in achieving technical excellence. 
  • You are not afraid of designing an ETL for a newly introduced dataset, generating concrete specifications for its automation; despite we have a robust Data Engineering team maintaining hundreds of Scala ETLs, the seniority of this role requires being able to communicate with this highly technical team.
  • Coordinating with other data scientists is an attractive point as it can eventually help you achieve bigger more interesting initiatives. In our team, we nurture a meritocratic culture trying to provide professional development opportunities.

The main tasks of this position will be the following:

  • Creating, testing, implementing, and monitoring applications designed to meet Commercial strategic goals.
  • Translate business requirements to technology implementation in our tech stack: PySpark & AWS.
  • Coordination with CRM & Customer Intelligence team to translate segmentation criteria into measurable attributes in our Data Repository.
  • Translate Campaign success criteria into data measurable KPIs, with a strong focus on automation.
  • Work together with senior team members such as Data Ops, Business Analysts, Data Scientists, etc. to implement the development.
  • Provide unit tested source code that meets the required standards and guidelines.
  • Work on disparate data sets, carry out analysis of vast data stores, and uncover insights.
  • Maintain weekly updates of our commercial activities to automatically translate into data-sourced KPIs.

To be successful in the role you must have

  • +3-5 year of experience in a similar role.
  • University or Master’s degree in Computer Science / Telecom / Maths / Physics / Industrial engineer or similar.
  • Familiarity using cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS or GCP) to run data analytics products in production.
  • Knowledge of code development best practices and tooling (e.g. version control, test-driven development, CI/CD).
  • ETL and/or data wrangling techniques.
  • Proficiency in Python development and ideally PySpark.
  • Business storytelling and communicating data insights in business consumable format.
  • Experience with SQL for managing and accessing data.
  • Agile methodology for team work and analytics 'product' creation.
  • Interest in learning from other Data Science experts, using feedback to improve analysis and understanding of strategies.
  • Attention to detail and passion/ grit for getting things done, digging into problems, and helping develop solutions.
  • Sense of ownership and entrepreneurialism to grow business.
  • Good level of english.
