We’re looking for a Data Science Manager with people management responsibility to set, drive, and influence Ai vision/strategy for our Navigator Platform’s Marketing team.

As a Data Science leader at Capital One's Auto Finance business, you’ll be in charge of a high performing and talented team that’s leading the next wave of disruption at a whole new scale. Our team has a relentless focus on the craft of modeling and innovation, using the latest in computing and machine learning technologies and operating across billions of customer records to unlock the big opportunities that help everyday people save money, time and agony in their financial lives. You will utilize your strong technical skills to scale machine learning models and products into real-time through designing, building complex data pipelines, and deploying models in our leading-edge cloud-based technology platforms. You will also have the opportunity to develop open-source packages and tools for our community and outside Capital One.

Team Description:

The Navigator Platform (NP) of the Capital One's Auto Finance (COAF) business is a newly formed organization that aims to build a world-class end to end car buying platform so that our customers can buy/sell cars 100% online with great experience. The NP Data Science team in COAF is driving every stage of business strategy and product development, ranging from personalized targeting, optimization, contextual bandit, recommendation system, chat bot, and many more.

Role Description

In this role, you will:

  • Build a world-class data science team by hiring, growing, and empowering associates
  • Set, drive, and influence real-time Ai vision and strategy to drive the heart of our business
  • Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver a product customers love
  • Leverage a broad stack of technologies — Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more — to reveal the insights hidden within huge volumes of numeric and textual data
  • Build machine learning models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation
  • Flex your interpersonal skills to translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals

Basic Qualifications:

  • Have experience in or passionate about hiring and building a data science team.
  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 6 years of experience in data analytics, or Master’s Degree plus 4 years of experience in data analytics, or PhD plus 1 year of experience in data analytics
  • At least 2 years’ experience in open source programming languages for large scale data analysis
  • At least 2 years’ experience with machine learning
  • At least 2 years’ experience with relational databases

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior people management experience
  • PhD in “STEM” field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) plus 3 years of experience in data analytics, or Master’s Degree in “STEM” field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) plus 6 years of experience
  • At least 2 years' utilizing cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • At least 4 years’ experience in Python, Scala, or R for large scale data analysis
  • At least 4 years’ experience with SQL
  • At least 4 years’ experience with machine learning andstatistical modeling (such as linear regression, logistic regression, tree-based modeling, generalized additive models, Bayesian statistics, time-series, non-parametric, optimization, experimental design, deep learning, NLP, recommenders, optimization, computer vision, or anomaly detection)
  • At least 4 years’ experience with model design, data pipeline optimization, model deployment into production, monitoring and maintaining machine learning models
