As part of our Tyvek® growth plan, we are seeking an R&D Engineer who will support the R&D team in the flash spinning technology development as well as in product development and their introduction into the market.

This hiring initiative represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic empowered R&D team that applies a rich understanding of materials, polymer science, chemistry, chemical and mechanical engineering in a very diverse environment with the mission to develop nonwoven membrane solutions that protect people, property and critical products and processes from the hazards that threaten them.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Define and develop data-acquisition and -management infrastructure under minimum supervision
  • Leading acquisition, storage, and treatment of data resulting from a variety of R&D experiments
  • Automating / streamlining image capture and analysis (including embedding metadata and RAW-file conversion)
  • Installation of inline LineScan cameras on production lines, implementing proprietary algorithms, including the development of in-house bulk-data statistical analysis for quality control
  • Software development for lab equipment and research facilities (using Python, Visual Studio, C#, Java, LabVIEW, etc.)
  • Ensure security and leveragability of data used for digital products across company
  • Introduce new technologies / tools in the area of data science and data engineering to improve efficiency and advance “digital transformation” for R&D projects
  • Partnering with engineers and technicians to apply data acquisition processes to other functions, such as application development and commercial production
  • Partnering with external consultants, vendors, and other entities to efficiently execute development programs and projects as needed
  • Writing and communicating technical reports and presentations

This job may require travel up to 10% of work time.

Your qualification profile:

  • MSc/BSc in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, or related discipline
  • Software development background
  • Relational Database Management (SMART-lab, Lab 4.0). Experience in construction of data pipelines.
  • Conceptual and analytical thinking
  • Ability to conceive and portray overall needs and construct architecture for integrated solutions
  • Intellectual curiosity and personal drive for continuous learning
  • Creativity, hands on, pragmatism
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial initiative
  • Excellent communication and networking skills
  • Strong collaboration capacity
  • Languages: English is mandatory

Desired additional qualifications & Competencies:

  • Professional experience is a plus
  • Knowledge in the areas of photography, video (capture, treatment, storage,…), and image analysis
  • Proficiency in data retrieval and management in manufacturing data platforms, e.g. AspenTech IP21, SAP, and TrakSYS, or similar
  • Languages: fluency in German, French is a plus
