Job Description

An experienced manager responsible for building and leading a team to design, build, test, and deploy ML/NLP models and services that meet business outcomes. Primary responsibility is people management, ensuring development through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development. Creates the technology strategy, ensuring technology solutions comply with enterprise AI/ML standards, model governance and model risk standards, and AI Ethics, Fairness and Bias related control practices. Advocates and advances modern, Agile solution delivery practices, great design, engineering and organizational practices. Accountable for team/program level resource and financial management; builds and maintains teams through talent acquisition. Sets maturity objectives and enables individuals/teams to with training & resources to achieve them. Sets and tracks quality and performance objectives.

Facilitates performance and career development of individuals through performance reviews, coaching, and building individual development plans that are needed to develop competencies and skills. Understands individual and team maturity and performance through team/client feedback. Manages relationships with the business and technology leaders, and vendors for technical products. Accountable for ML/NLP models as relevant to their teams e.g. prioritizing tech debt, compliance and security items, and supporting audits. Ensures all relevant risk, financial, and compliance polices and standards are met. Accountable for the application deployment in production (app health, resiliency, performance, security, enterprise data management standards, global records management standards, audit exams and reviews). Creates the technology strategy for their technical domain. Ensures that execution is aligned with product strategy by working with Product Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders. Creates an inclusive and healthy working environment, and helps to resolve organizational impediments/blockers. Leads and creates followership in Communities of Practice in the organization. Manages a team.

Required Skills

• At least 5 years of relative experience in managing AI/ML teams.
• 2 - 4 years of professional experience in NLP programming.
• Demonstrated background in NLP and machine learning. Preference for degrees in computer science, information retrieval, statistics, applied math, or other quantitative field.
• Demonstrated track record of publication in peer reviewed journals and conferences.
• Track-record of having developed novel algorithms.
• Experience in deep learning - phonetics (valued).
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: entity/relation extraction, information extraction, summarization, semantics, document classification, ontology, question answering, and knowledge graph.
• Experience on modern deep learning approaches to NLP: word/paragraph embedding’s, structured prediction, sentiment analysis, disambiguation.
• Ability to consistently deliver results across shifting priorities and deadlines in fast paced environment.
• Ability to work with a ‘sense of urgency’ in order to meet critical deadlines.
• Detail oriented with strong investigative and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to proactively engage in a teamwork culture.

Desired Skills

• Advanced degree in Data Science with a focus in NLP valued.
• Ability to indirectly manage peer level associates who are part of problem-solving teams.
• Background in teaching NLP algorithms to beginners and advanced Data Scientists.
• Experience with large scale data analysis tools such as Spark, Hadoop.
• Background in machine learning techniques.
