Job Description

The Senior Data Scientist/Software Engineer will join a vibrant product team which is tasked with the development of a next generation solution in the WRFM space using state of the art data science techniques. The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for development and productization of data science solutions in the context of the WRFM.ai program in an agile fashion. The individual will also be accountable for adhering to Shell's high quality standards.

Key Characteristics;

• Accountable for development and delivery of data science products in a production scale environment.
• Manage the product lifecycle especially relating to data science, development to support.
• Development and transformation of proof of concepts into a larger deployable product in the company and outside.
• Rinse and repeat, cross-pollinate ideas across projects and assets in Part of the P&T Research team, developing Proof of Concepts and turning them into scalable data science products
• Responsible for the supervision and contribution to project work to build digital solutions with significant data science components, providing the technical assurance on end-2-end delivery of data science solutions for organizations assets, operations and new business transformations, in particular the machine learning component.
• Adhere to the principles of delivering quality through the MCDS quality standards initiative by conducting regular health checks, audits, code reviews to ensure that clean and maintainable production-level code is being produced by project teams.
• Keep abreast of new engineering practices, technologies and continuously improving our Agile practices and building and strengthening relationships and alliances in academia, IDT and industry.

Professional Qualifications & Skills;

• Master's degree or equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Data Science, or a similar discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in industry in a Data Science/Software Engineering related role

Mandatory; Experience in Machine Learning + Experience with Python Data Science ecosystem (Pandas, Scikit Learn, Numpy, etc.) + developer experience with Python

Required Skills;

• Experience in developing, deploying & supporting machine learning solutions in production.
• Experience in developing end-to-end workflows using machine learning for predictive modelling in a business/industry environment, i.e., feature engineering, model creation and evaluation.
• Deep expertise in Python and the Python Data Science ecosystem (Pandas, Scikit Learn, Numpy, etc.).
• Ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable production-level code and experience in version control, testing, refactoring.
• Experience in creating portable and reusable Python code e.g. in the form of packages with clearly defined APIs.
• Good knowledge and understanding of GIT, Azure, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Firm grasp and demonstratable experience on the principles of the model development lifecycle and producing machine learning models that stand up to statistical rigor.

Experience in at least one of the following;

• Machine Learning and Statistics.
• Probabilistic Modelling (e.g. General Linear Models, Stochastic processes, Bayesian Networks, Hidden Markov Models, Hierarchical Modelling, Time Series Modelling, etc.).
• Algorithms & Optimization (e.g. linear programming, multi-objective optimization, meta-heuristics, etc.).
• Strong communication skills, especially explaining technical concepts and challenges to business stakeholders.
• Extensive experience working in empowered, delivery focused, cross-functional and collaborating agile teams.
• Experience of working in a virtual team and with virtual stakeholders.
• Prior working experience on one or more of Shell's Subsurface and Wells projects, preferably R&D work.
• Expectation is for the candidate to come up-to-speed in the shortest possible time.
